grazie perchè la storia di San Valentino un po' la conoscevo ma non proprio come si deve! Comunque anch'io condivido appieno la tua opinione su questa festa e sull'amore in generale...anche per me l'amore bisogna dimostrarlo tutti i giorni, e non solo per il proprio partner, ma anche verso la famiglia e gli amici. Spesso mi piace sorprendere mio marito con dei messaggini simpatici nascosti nel portamonete o nel portavivande che si porta in ufficio con dentro il pranzo...o a volte mi piace mandare un bigliettino a mia mamma, così, per nessuna ragione in particolare se non per farle sapere che nonostante la lontananza le voglio sempre bene...basta davvero poco, anche solo una parola affettuosa, altro che rose e cioccolatini solo perchè ce lo dice la pubblicità in tv..

thanks for telling me about the story of Saint Valentine, I did know a little bit about it, but not properly. I do agree with what you say about this day and love in general...you should be showing love every single day, and not just to your partner, to your family and friends, too. Sometimes I enjoy surprising my husband with a little message hidden in his wallet or in his lunchbox...or I'd send a card to my mum just to say hi and to reminder how much I love her despite the distance. It doesn't have to buy a grand gesture, just a few caring words is all you need, no need for roses and chocolates just because the ads in tv are telling us to buy them...
Devo ammettere però che mio marito ed io ci scambiamo sempre un bigliettino per San Valentino, ma non compero, sempre fatto a mano...giusto una scusa per mettermi all'opera e creare un biglietto, sai che non riesco a resistere! Magari prepariamo una cenetta assieme...anche se ti dirò spesso e volentieri durante la settimana cuciniamo comunque assieme...non ci facciamo mai regali perchè non ne vediamo il motivo, piuttosto preferiamo usare i soldi per qualcos'altro, come ad esempio per andare ad un concerto..

I have to say we do exchange cards, but handmade ones...just an excuse for me to get crafting! We may cook a meal together, even if most of the times we do cook together anyway. We don't get each other any presents as we don't agree with it, we'd rather save the money to do something together, like going to a concert.
I also made the card my hubby gave me!

eccles cakes
Questi dolcetti dalla forma rotonda e ripieni di uvetta prendono il nome dalla cittadina di Eccles, che come sai è vicina a dove abito, perchè nonostante si ignori l'autore della ricetta, si narra che il primo fornaio a venderle fosse proprio ad Eccles. Quelle che vedi qui fotografate sono state fatte dalla mia amica Donna, che ce le ha presentate con del formaggio cheddar di Lancashire, come vuole la tradizione. Non le avevo mai assaggiate abbinate al formaggio e devo confessarti mi sono piaciute un sacco!These small, round cakes filled with currants and made from flaky pastry take the name from the town of Eccles, which is not too far from where I live. The author of the recipe is unknown but they say the person that first started selling them was a baker from Eccles. The ones you see in the picture above were made by my friend Donna, who served them with some crumbly Lancashire cheese. I never had them before and I simply loved them!
red velvet cupcake
La seconda prelibatezza è questa red velvet cupcake...mi dispiace perchè avrei dovuto far una foto del pan di spagna per farti vedere che era tutto rosso, e da lì il nome red velvet, "velluto rosso". Ti ricorderai Rose che ci ha insegnato come fare la classica casetta di pan di zenzero...queste cupcakes me le regalate proprio lei, puoi vedere altre foto sul suo blog. Che delizia! My friend Rose made it, I am sure you'll remember her from our bake off when we learnt to make gingerbread houses. She gave me a box with 6 cupcakes, they were so yummy!
