Tafa…what? Tafazzismo! New Italian word.

One of the last days I was chatting with a person, suddenly he said me : " I think Luca does tafazzismo ." Few seconds and  my brain has  sent  me the warning signals . Tafa ... what? I was in an embarrassing situation where I could not stop the conversation saying " Excuse me, what tafazzismo is? A new sport ? A hobby ? A religious belief or a newage doctrine? " I was sure that no one of these things was tafazzismo after having analyzed the context of the speech. Imagine  when you carry on a conversation, but your attention is focused on something that has been said and the other things are not important. This was happening to me . Luckily today there is   computer and internet. I‘m used to reading  a lot but I had never heard the word tafazzismo.  It could not be a word used by Verga or Manzoni ! This word was created in conjunction with a character invented by three Italian comedians Aldo, Giovanni and Giacomo . Their shows are really fun . In the Nineties  they had invented this character among a lot of the caricatures. This character -  compared to many others-  was less interesting but he is entered in the popular culture . His name was Tafazzi and he used to hit himself  with a bottle.  In the common speech tafazzismo means  to do masochism but not under a sexual point of view, instead concerning a metaphorical meaning  ( to hurt yourself).Maybe you could have  been in a situation where it seems you have done a “masochistic” choice, I mean a choice against your interests .  A trivial example ? You have to do a bit of  sport , you have not done it from long time but now it’s the right time. What do you do ? You begin in a big way , not step by step as it would be suggested. So you wear your sneakers, your tracksuit, all your best intentions and you begin running  four kilometers. Well -my friends- let me tell you , you have very good intentions but you are completely  crazy. The best solution would be to start gradually. Now you can not complain if someone says that you are metaphorically masochists and - if someone wants to be more trendy- can tell you that you are doing  tafazzismo . How to blame him ?
L’altro giorno chiaccheravo con una persona, quando ad un certo punto mi dice: “ secondo me Luca pratica tafazzismo”. Qualche secondo ed ecco il mio cervello che mi manda i segnali d’allarme. Tafa …cosa? Ero in une di quelle situazioni un po’ imbarazzanti in cui non potevo fermare il mio interlocutore e dirgli: “ Scusa ma che cosa è questo tafazzismo? Un nuovo sport? Un hobby? Una credenza religiosa o una pratica newage?” Analizzandole tutte nel contesto del discorso , sembrava impossibile che fosse qualunque di queste cose. Avete presente quando continuate una conversazione, ma la vostra attenzione è focalizzata su qualche cosa che è stato detto è il resto non è importante? Mi stava capitando proprio quello. Grazie al cielo oggi esiste il pc ed internet. Io leggo tanto ma tafazzismo non lo avevo mai sentito dire. Effettivamente non poteva essere un termine usato da Verga o da Manzoni!  Questa parola è nata in concomitanza con un personaggio creato da  tre comici italiani Aldo Giovanni e Giacomo. I loro spettacoli e scenette sono veramente divertenti. Negli anni novanta fra le varie caricature avevano inventato questo personaggio che , rispetto a  molti altri era di sicuro meno interessante ma che è entrato nella cultura popolare. Questo personaggio era Tafazzi che si colpiva con una bottiglia. Nel linguaggio comune è quindi diventato praticare masochismo ma non lo vedete da un punto di vista sessuale quanto metaforico. Vi sarà capitato di trovarvi  in situazioni dove sembra quasi che abbiate preso una scelta masochistica! Un esempio banale? Dovete fare sport, non avete messo le vostre scarpe da tennis per venti anni, ad un tratto decidete che è arrivato il momento giusto. Cosa fate? Patite alla grande e non per gradi, come dovrebbe essere. Quindi scarpe da tennis, tuta, buona volontà e incominciate a farvi di punto in bianco quattro kilometri. Bhe amici miei lasciatevelo dire, per quanto ammirevole la vostra buona volontà. È una follia bella e buona, la soluzione ideale sarebbe stata iniziare gradualmente. A questo punto non potete lamentarvi se qualcuno affermasse che siete metaforicamente dei masochisti e, volendo usare questo nuovo termine molto trendy , che praticate del tafazzismo. Come dargli torto?
