The sci-fi of the 80's owes quite a lot to Ralph McQuarrie. His touch, today, is (maybe) missing. The fan of sci-fi probably already know this man, but if you don't know him... well, now I'll tell you why.
McQuarrie era un Concept Artist, e lavorò alla creazione del Viper della serie Battlestar Galactica degl'anni 80. Questa serie doveva fare cassa dopo l'incredibile successo di Guerre Stellari. Fu investito molto in questa serie, tanto da assumere McQuarrie per approntare i concept dei mezzi spaziali di questa serie. Ed è osservando le prime bozze relative al Viper che si scoprono cose molto interessanti.
McQuarrie was a Concept Artist, and he worked on the creation of the Viper of Battlestar Galactica TV series of the 80's. This TV show was intended to follow the incredible success of Star Wars, so the producer had invested a lot of money on it, giving to McQuarrie the job to create the concept of all the starship in the serie. And it's really interesting to look at the original sketches he did.
Qui a fianco c'è un disegno iniziale di quello che doveva essere il Viper. Come potete osservare il design è molto differente, e... be', non assomiglia forse al caccia di Buck Rogers? Guarda caso Battlestar Galactica è di un paio d'anni antecedente a Buck Rogers.
On this side you can see a first draw of "what it have to be" the Viper. It's really different, and... well, do you notice a similarity with the Buck Rogers starfighter? Not Casually the Buck Rogers TV series followed Battlestar Galactica of a year or two.
