Do you know that the region Piemonte has about five hundred castles - including major and minor castles,? I did not and I was very surprised when I have discovered it ! Five hundred is a huge number! My project is to visit at least a couple of castles every year: making a calculations I need "only" 250 years to visit all these castles. Considering the increase in life expectancy and the longevity so much praised in Italy, maybe I can have a good chance! Ok I was joking! Actually the number of the castles is true and they are incredible jewelry. One of these is Venaria Reale, just outside the city of Turin. This Savoy residence was forgotten for over two centuries, and only after a careful restoration came back to its original splendor.
The castle was built from 1658 to 1679 by the architect Amedeo of Castellammare. It was originally an hunting residence. Since 1997 it has become a symbol of Unesco and of the Baroque architecture. You will be fascinated by the beautiful room number 11 that is behind a black curtain and suddenly dazzles with its light.

On the sunny days you can enjoy the garden surrounding the villa where-during a pleasant walk- you can see some caves of the seventeenth century, the fountain of Hercules and pleasant statues of Arte Povera. What is most amazing is the widespread white and the white walls. It seems that everything emanates the light! The location is spectacular and the castle is placed in a context that creates a unique and unforgettable experience.

When you leave the castle - always active with temporary exhibitions and events- you will be catapulted into the village. This sleepy set of houses is around the main road that seems the “red carpet “ of the palace. The shopping addicted can indulge in finding very special objects. The big shopping centers are far away and here you will find many little traditional shops and small restaurants or bar. Visiting Venaria you will have a complete jump in the past but also in a special place where you will feel kings and queens for a day.

Una delle scoperte che mi ha lasciata maggiormente basita è il fatto che ci siano circa cinquecento castelli nella regione Piemonte , comprendendo i castelli maggiori e minori. Pensateci un attimo cinquecento è un bel numero! Mi sono ripromessa di visitarne almeno un paio all’anno: facendo quattro calcoli dovrei impiegarci “ solo” 250 anni. Chissà che con l’allungamento della vita media e la longevità che tanto decantano in Italia io possa avere buone speranze ! Scherzi a parte in mezzo a questi castelli ci sono dei gioielli incredibili. Uno fra questi in assoluto è la Reggia di Venaria Reale, appena fuori la città di Torino. Questa residenza sabauda fu dimenticata per oltre due secoli e solo dopo un attento lavoro di restauro riportata al suo originario splendore. Il castello fu costruito tra il 1658 e il 1679 grazie all’architetto Amedeo Di Castellamare. Voleva essere una residenza di caccia. Dal 1997 è diventato patrimonio dell’Unesco e simbolo di architettura Barocca. Si rimane affascinati dalla splendida sala 11 che si apre dietro un tendone nero ed abbaglia improvvisamente con la sua luce. Nelle giornate di sole si può godere del giardino che circonda la villa dove, durante una piacevole passeggiata di possono vedere grotte seicentesche , la fontana di Ercole e piacevoli statue di arte povera. Quello che maggiormente colpisce è il bianco diffuso e le pareti candide. Sembra che tutto emani luce!

L’insieme è spettacolare e inserito in un contesto che crea un atmosfera unica e indimenticabile. Appena uscite dalla reggia , sempre attiva con mostre ed eventi temporanei, vi troverete catapultati nel borgo. Questo sonnacchioso insieme di case si raggruppa introno alla via principale che sembra fungere da passerella d’ingresso per la reggia. Gli amanti dello shopping posso sbizzarirsi trovando oggetti molto particolari. I grandi centri commerciali sono lontani e qui trovate una serie di bottegucce e piccoli locali di ristoro. Preparatevi il vostro sarà un completo tuffo nel passato ma soprattutto in un posto speciale dove vi sentirete re e regine per un giorno.
