Danny Boyle ha vinto la medaglia d’oro delle cerimonie d’apertura delle Olimpiadi. Io non amo questo tipo di show, ma lui mi ha fatto capire quanto deve essere figo essere inglesi.
La regina Elisabetta ha aperto ufficialmente i Giochi e la sfilata delle nazioni partecipanti. Fabiana, Sara e io abbiamo studiato attentamente tutti i portabandiera, e abbiamo scelto i nostri preferiti.
- Nick Willis, Nuova Zelanda. Durante la cerimonia di consegna della bandiera kiwi, il mezzofondista è stato omaggiato da una haka. Un momento bellissimo che potete rivedere anche voi.
- Usain Bolt, Jamaica. Devo aggiungere altro? Che vinca o meno, lui è l’uomo di questi Giochi, provando ad entrare nella leggenda. La Jamaica non poteva trovare un portabandiera più rappresentativo.
- Stan Wawrinka, Svizzera. Amico fraterno di Roger Federer, insieme attuali campioni olimpici di doppio. Re Roger, come al solito, è stato un autentico signore: chiamato a portare la bandiera elvetica, ha passato l’onore al suo amico Stan. Applausi e standing ovation per entrambi.
- Yordan Yovchev, Bulgaria. Il ginnasta più anziano con i suoi 39 anni, è alla sua sesta Olimpiade. Un record quasi assoluto, se non fosse che la nostra Josefa Idem lo batte: 48 anni e 8 Olimpiadi.
- Bahiya al-Hamad, Qatar. A 19 anni, e insieme alle altre due connazionali, è entrata nella storia: per la prima volta, le donne del Qatar partecipano ai Giochi. Il mondo sta cambiando, e questa è la vittoria più bella dello sport sull’ignoranza.
- Kenneth Medwood, Belize. Una spedizione piccola piccola, ma con un portabandiera molto emozionato e commosso. Le lacrime sincere di questo quattrocentista rappresentano le emozioni di moltissimi, allo stadio olimpico (e non solo).
Menzioni doverose e speciali:
- Gli stivali di gomma della Repubblica Ceca: di certo non un colpo di glamour, ma sono indice di come i cechi si sono già ben ambientati al clima inglese.
- I vestiti e i colori degli Stati africani e oceanici: colorati, vivaci e molto tradizionali. Meglio di qualsiasi griffe.

Danny Boyle has definitely won the Gold medal of the Olympics opening ceremonies. I usually don’t like this kind of shows, but he made me understand how cool must be to be British right now. Queen Elizabeth officially opened the Games and the parade of the participating nations. Fabiana, Sara and I have carefully studied all the flag bearers, picking our favorites.
- Nick Willis, New Zealand. During the presentation ceremony of the Kiwi flag, the middle-distance runner was honored by a haka. A stunning moment that you can enjoy here.
- Usain Bolt, Jamaica. Should I say more? Win or not, he is the man of the Games, trying to become a legend. Jamaica could not find a more representative flag bearer, in our opinion.
- Stan Wawrinka, Switzerland. One of the most closer Roger Federer‘s friend, he’s the current Olympic champions in doubles, with Federer of course. King Roger, as usual, behaved as a true gentleman: called to carry the Swiss flag, he passed the honor to his friend Stan. Applause and standing ovation for both.
- Yordan Yovchev, Bulgaria. The oldest gymnast with is 39 years, Yordan is enjoying in his sixth Olympics. Almost an all-time record, if he were not “beaten” by our Italian Josefa Idem: 48 years and 8 Olympics. Sorry, Mr Yovchev!
- Bahiya al-Hamad, Qatar. At 19 years – and together with two other female fellows – she has entered history: for the first time, Qatar women will attend the Games. The world is changing, and this is the sport’s best victory over ignorance.
- Kenneth Medwood, Belize. A very small expedition, but with a really excited and moved flag bearer. The genuine tears of this sprinter represent the emotions of many people at the Olympic stadium (and not only there!).
Special mentions:
- Czech Republic’s rubber boots: certainly not a glamour shot, but they are an indication of how the Czechs are already well familiarise with the English weather’s surroundings.
- African and Oceanic clothes and uniforms: colourful, vibrant and very traditional. Better than any famous fashion brands.
