Da sempre sinonimo di perfezione di mistero e divinità, l'occhio è stato oggetto di numerose iconografie;
gli egizi, attribuivano grande importanza a quello del dio Horus, che nel tentativo di vendicare la morte del padre dal malvagio Seth, lo perse mentre venne diviso in sessantatré parti e che fu in seguito ricomposto dal dio della giustizia Toth che glielo restituì aggiungendovene una porzione. Utilizzato come unità di misura, esso esprime meglio il suo significato attraverso la protezione dal male, un ruolo ben diverso da quello rivestito da quello di Ra che spesso gli viene affiancato, in realtà ben più malefico in quanto rappresenta l'aspetto punitivo della divinità, il controllo sull'umanità e il giudizio.
Ma anche nella Bibbia, vi sono molti riferimenti all'occhio, emblema dell'onnipotenza sovrannaturale.
La stessa cultura cristiana, lo colloca all'interno di un triangolo con riferimento al mistero della Trinità mentre la massoneria lo indica come effigie divina, in una duplice simbologia: sul piano fisico esso rappresenta il Sole, mentre su quello spirituale è il Grande Architetto dell'Universo, ovvero Dio, mentre il triangolo alla base rappresenta la Durata e quelli ai lati in contrapposizione, la Luce e le Tenebre.
Senza dubbio, l'alone di mistero che circonda l'occhio ha contribuito a far riemergere l'interesse verso questo particolare ideogramma, che al di là del suo significato è molto bello anche in tutte le sue raffigurazioni.

Without a doubt, the aura of mystery that surrounds the eye has contributed to bringing the interest in this particular ideogram , which beyond its meaning is very nice in all its representations .
