Una Canzone, una band – Madness

I Madness sono una band inglese nata nel 1976. Composta da sette elementi, furono la prima band ska ad avere una certa notorietà. Inizialmente chiamati Invaders la band cambia nome nel 1978 e l’anno successivo pubblica l’album di debutto.

Il look particolare e il sound allegro e innovativo fanno balzare One Step Beyond sorprendentemente al numero 2 delle classifiche inglesi anche grazie a singoli come One Step Beyond, Night Boat To Cairo e My Girl.

L’album successivo Absolutely del 1980 conferma la band in alto alle classifiche, ma il lento declino di popolarità inizia già l’anno successivo con 7. Il greatest hits Complete Madness del 1982 è l’unico (e resterà l’ultimo) album del gruppo ad arrivare al numero 1 inglese.

Gli anni successivi i Madness cercano un cambio di rotta con gli album The Rise And The Fall, Keep Moving e Mad Not Mad, ma sfociano in numerose liti culminate nel 1987 con lo scioglimento della band.

Nel 1999 però si riuniscono e pubblicano Wonderful, senza troppa fortuna. Ma The Dangermen Sessions Vol.1 e The Liberty Of Norton Folgate riscuotono un discreto successo, che permette loro di riguadagnare popolarità e di fare un tour europeo.
