Una delle tendenze che in autunno va per la maggiore (anche se è ormai da qualche tempo che rimane sulla cresta dell'onda anche durante le latre stagioni) è lo stile urban.La moda urban è lo stile nato dalla strada: un tipo di look un pò ribelle che emerge dai quartieri e si oppone alla moda dettata dai designer e dal mercato. Anche se ormai questo stile si è talmente diffuso che spesso anche i maggiori brand hanno una linea in cui mescolano lo stile più fashion con accenni hip hop e street, rimane in esso una componente "outsider" anche se in misura molto minore che non negli anni 90.Lo stile Urban ha avuto infatti un impatto molo forte nel corso degli anni 80e nei primi anni 90 . Lo street style del periodo era noto come " grunge ", nato a Seattle e diffuso principalmente da Kurt Colbain e altre icone musicali . Questo look, noto per il suo aspetto logoro e sporco si è integrato ufficilamente nel fashion system grazie alla famosa "linea grunge " di Marc Jacobs.
A differenza della moda "ordinaria", di solito concepita dai designers e quindi filtrata verso il basso per il grande ubblico attraverso i canali di commercializzazione e distribuzione,lo stile urbano nasce in strada . Prima viene indossato dalle persone e poi copiato da designer che lo riconsegnano al popolo reinterpretato e commercializzato.Il fascino della moda urban sta proprio in questo: si muove nella direzione opposta rispetto alla moda tradizionale e spesso diventa una fonte di orgoglio per la comunità o il segmento di popolazione che ha sviluppato un certo tipo di look, come è stao per lo stile hip hop .
La moda urban riflette il tempo e le sensazioni del momento. L'obiettivo è quello di creare un mix di moda e stile che esprima l' umore del giorno, ma senza subire l'influenza della moda ufficiale: piuttosto l'ispirazione proviene dalla scena misicale indie, dallo sport più popolare del momento e dai ragazzi di strada dei quartieri più stilosi. Rimane comunque un movimento con una forte individualità, caratterizzato dallo sforzo di rimanere fedele a se stesso e dalla non accettazione dei trend di massa.

Urban wear originates on the street. First worn by people and then copied by designers who interpret looks redelivering them to the people through marketing and distribution points.
The appeal of urban fashion including hip hop style is that it moves in the opposite direction of traditional fashion and often becomes a source of pride to the community or segment of the population who developed the look.

It is a movement of individuality not mass acceptance so always strive to be authentic to yourself.
A perception exists that grunge emerged in the early 1990s. However, according to Michael Lavine, who compiled a photographic documentary of the grunge scene, the '90s was the end. He states that was "when Seattle's best cultural brew was watered down, piped out to the masses and sold at a steep profit." Like any movement from the street, once it is mainstreamed, it has ended.
