L'abbigliamento urban è strettamente associato con la cultura hip-hop , nata intorno agli anni 70, perciò parte di questo stile è caratterzzato dalla praticità (in origine si cercava un modo di vestire che oltre all'aspetto estetico garantisse libertà di movimento, ed i vestiti erano sempre funzionali a ragioni pratiche) oltre che all'originalità del design. E' vero che le tendenze di urban wear cambiano di frequente, ma alcuni capi rimangono più o meno stabili nel tempo.

· Rigorosamente pulite ed up- to-date, sono uno dei capisaldi dell'abbigliamento urban. Un trucco per far sembrare sempre all'ultimo grido le vosrtre sneackers è quello di cambiare i lacci con dei modelli all'ultima moda, variando fantasia, colore o spessore (larghezza). · Di solito periodicamente esce un certo modo di indossare il cappello che va per la maggiore al momento. In genere i cappellini da baseball sono sempre una scelta adatta quando si sta cercando di ottenere un look urban, ma attualmente quelli che vanno più di moda sono i beanie, da indossare anche se non fa così freddo e con i capelli rigorosamente sciolti.
