Theca Gallery Lugano presenta gli artisti Jonathan Guaitamacchi (UK) e Mohsen Taasha Wahidi (Afghanistan) all’interno del progetto curatoriale “I was used to be there: an unforgettable stay” per la mostra che si terrà dal 18 al 21 giugno presso VILNIUS ART FAIR. Theca Gallery è alla sua prima partecipazione presso la fiera lituana ed ha scelto questo luogo per mostrare due artisti che lavorano comunemente sul tema della memoria e della migrazione. L’esposizione si concentra nella presentazione di alcuni recenti lavori realizzati appositamente da Guaitamacchi per la mostra unitamente a lavori già esposti da Taasha Wahidi a dOCUMENTA(13) e al Sarnoff Museum of Art in New Jersey (USA) nello scorso aprile. La memoria, la stratificazione dei passaggi e di ricordi di luoghi mai visti sono l’impianto attorno a cui è stata costruita l’esposizione. Hai mai visto la M25 londinese? o i deserti rocciosi del Bamiyan? Beh non importa. Anche se non li hai mai visti sicuramente fanno parte dell’immaginario iconografico sociale, sono parte di un decalogo di immagini delle memoria collettiva comune, come Marylin Monroe e Andy Warhol. Non importa se tu li abbia conosciuti o tu abbia mai visitato quei luoghi o li visiterai mai. La migrazione del pensiero porta con sé la migrazione (distorta) della conoscenza d’immagini comuni, e questa mostra unisce luoghi (nostalgici) del vissuto di ciascuno dei due artisti. Jonathan Guaitamacchi affida al colore bianco e nero delle sue tele il ricordo di grandi infrastrutture viabilistiche inglesi, brani di città meneghina e nevi perenni dell’Engadina. Mohsen Taasha Wahidi attraverso le sue stratificazioni di passaggi di colore ad acqua rappresenta la distanza culturale afghana e la reminiscenza di teorie persiane della sepoltura dei morti. Entrambi gli artisti ci parlano di stati di solitudine interiore, degli interstizi tra gli spazi vuoti di luoghi che restano visibili solo attraverso il racconto scritto che compare, sempre, come ultimo strato superficiale delle loro opere presentate in mostra. La scrittura diventa quindi l’elemento a cui affidare la trasmigrazione delle impressioni di immagini che appartengono (e che sono appartenute) alla collettività. Questa esposizione vuole far riappropriare il visitatore della sua coscienza di memoria collettiva attraverso la somministrazione di immagini che già lo riguardano ma che probabilmente non ha mai visto sino in fondo.

Theca Gallery presents the artists Jonathan Guaitamacchi (UK) and Mohsen Taasha Wahidi (Afghanistan) within the curatorial project “I was used to be there: an unforgettable stay” for the exhibition which will be held from June 18th to 21st at VILNIUS ART FAIR. Theca Gallery is at its first participation at the Lithuanian fair and chose this place to showcase two artists who commonly works on the themes of memory and migration. The exhibition is focused on the presentation of some recent artwork carried out by Guaitamacchi specially for the exhibition together with artworks already exhibited by Taasha Wahidi in dOCUMENTA (13) and Sarnoff Museum of Art in New Jersey (USA) on last April. The memory, the stratification of the steps and memories of places never seen are the basis of this exhibition. Have you ever seen the M25 in London? or the rocky deserts of Bamiyan? Well it does not matter. Even if you’ve never seen certainly them are part of the imaginary social iconography, are part of a handbook of common images of the collective memory, like Marilyn Monroe and Andy Warhol. It does not matter if you’ve known them, or you have ever visited or will visit those places ever. The migration of thought brings migration (distorted) knowledge of common images, and this exhibition unites places (nostalgic) of the life of each of the two artists. Jonathan Guaitamacchi paints on black and white color the memory of the British great road infrastructures as well as part of Milan and the eternal snows of the Engadine in Switzerland. Mohsen Taasha Wahidi through its layers of watercolor transitions is focused on the cultural distance in Afghanistan.. Both artists speak of states of inner solitude, the interstices between the gaps in places that are visible only through the written story that appears, again, as the last layer of their works presented in the exhibition. The writing then becomes the element to which to entrust the transmigration of the impressions of images that belong (and that belonged) to the community. This exhibition takes the visitor to regain possession of his consciousness of collective memory through the administration of images that already regard him but that probably has never seen until the end.
