Cavoli! Sono già passati dieci giorni dal mio rientro da un piacevole weekend passato a Padova. Non ero mai stata in questa città ricca d’arte e dal forte ascendente religioso (Padova è famosa per la Basilica di Sant’Antonio) e quando si è presentata la possibilità di passarci due giorni l’ho colta al volo. L’occasione l’ha fornita il campionato italiano di pattinaggio artistico a rotelle, che si è svolto proprio a Padova dal 22 al 25 marzo. Le tre del Trentino si sono così riunite e con le prime belle giornate di primavera ci siamo godute la città come piace a noi, in tutta tranquillità.
Sabato mattina svegliarmi presto, prima del normale orario settimanale, è stata dura, ma almeno a metà mattina eravamo già a Padova… a cercare di capire dove prendere l’autobus per arrivare al B&B
A casa di Chiara. Forse l’unico aspetto della città che mi ha lasciata un po’ perplessa è proprio relativo al servizio di
autobus: alle fermate, infatti, non sono presenti tutte le informazioni sul percorso compiuto dagli autobus, ma sono riportate solo le fermate principali… o almeno questo è ciò che noi abbiamo ipotizzato… che dire? Se non capite dove dovete scendere, non perdete tempo prezioso e chiedete ai locali; è sempre il consiglio migliore.
Poiché il sabato pomeriggio sarebbe stato dedicato alle gare di pattinaggio, appoggiate le borse in stanza abbiamo dedicato la tarda mattinata alla visita all’orto botanico, che aveva suscitato in me grande entusiasmo. Peccato che io mi immaginassi uno dei tipici giardini scozzesi, con una profusione di piante, fiori, profumi e colori… e abbia trovato invece un orto scientifico gestito dall’università di Padova
Le specie della flora terrestre creavano sì una profusione, però di fiorito c’era poco e niente; inoltre il giardino non era così mastodontico come me l’aspettavo.
Quando poi ci hanno avvisato che avremmo avuto sì e no una mezz’oretta per la
visita poiché la chiusura era alle 13.00, siamo state lì lì per non entrare affatto; ci hanno convinto facendoci pagare il biglietto per i bambini, al costo di 1€ anziché 4€. Ad essere sincera, il prezzo intero sarebbe stato esagerato rispetto a quanto abbiamo visto. Tuttavia, concedo all’orto botanico l’attenuante del periodo: sicuramente tra qualche settimana fiori e
piante saranno in piena fioritura, rendendolo di certo più appetibile…
Mangiato qualcosa al volo presso uno dei chiostri della Basilica, nel primo pomeriggio ci siamo dirette al
Pala Fabris per il campionato di pattinaggio. Scoprire che l’ultima gara prevista terminava alle 22.30 anziché alle 20.00 non ci ha scoraggiato più di tanto; per fortuna avevamo il numero della compagnia di taxi
Nonostante mi piaccia il pattinaggio sul ghiaccio, non avendo mai assistito dal vivo a una gara di pattinaggio artistico, per giunta a rotelle, non sapevo bene cosa aspettarmi. Di certo non che mi coinvolgesse così tanto come invece è stato. Ho apprezzato tutte le tipologie di gare – dai
quartetti (
qui un video della squadra che ha vinto), al
sincronizzato, ai
piccoli gruppi – e ho fatto il tifo per tutti gli atleti in gara approfittando dell’esperienza da spettatrici di Monica e Cristina ai campionati del 2011 a Reggio Emilia per farmi spiegare le differenze tra le varie gare. Poco alla volta ho iniziato a riconoscere le difficoltà dei vari programmi, gli elementi obbligatori, i passaggi eseguiti alla perfezione e quelli riusciti un po’ meno bene.
La categoria piccoli gruppi è risultata per me la più noiosa, per lo meno fino a quando non si è presentato il
gruppo campione in carica, che ha confermato la medaglia d’oro anche per il 2012: l’eleganza e la fluidità dei movimenti, la coreografia eseguita alla perfezione, i costumi curati nei minimi particolari e la spettacolarizzazione del programma hanno risvegliato il mio neurone sopito, che ha decretato il gruppo come vincitore ben prima dei voti della giuria. Un’esperienza che credo ripeteremo anche il prossimo anno, pur senza sapere ancora dove si svolgerà il campionato 2013.
Il ritorno al B&B è stato quasi traumatico, dal momento che abbiamo visto da lontano il taxi che avevamo chiamato fare marcia indietro nell’impossibilità di arrivare all’ingresso del Pala Fabris causa imbottigliamento del traffico in uscita dal palazzetto… ma ancora più traumatico è stato accorgerci che avremmo dormito un’ora in meno a causa del passaggio all’ora legale

Wow! Ten days have already passed since I came back home after spending a pleasant weekend in Padua. I had never been there before and I’m pleased I had the opportunity to discover this town rich in art and faith (thanks to the famous Basilica of Saint Anthony). The Italian championship of roller skating, which took place in Padua from 22 to 25 March, created the perfect occasion to visit the town. How could I miss the chance? So the company of Trentino gathered together and enjoyed the first spring sunny days walking along the peaceful streets of the city.
It had been someway hard to wake up early on a Saturday morning, even earlier than usual on working days, but the game was worth the candle when we arrived in Padua at mid-morning… ok, we arrived there just to start wondering where exactly to catch the bus to reach our B&B accommodation, At Chiara’s. Maybe the only thing I could complain about is the scarce information regarding the bus service: no way you could find full details on the bus course at the bus stops, the signals only report the main bus stops… or this is what we just guessed after a few hours in Padua. My suggestion? If you can’t understand where to drop off just ask local people: that’s much better and you won’t waste time trying to understand it by yourselves…
Since the afternoon would have been devoted to the skating competition, after leaving our bags at the B&B we spent the rest of the morning at the botanical garden. I was very enthusiastic about it when I found that there was a botanical garden in Padua… I was somehow convinced that it would have had much in common with my loved Scottish gardens, offering plenty of plants, flowers, smells and colours. I guess you could well imagine my disappointment when I finally got there and found that it is actually a garden used for scientific purposes by the University of Padua
To tell the truth there was plenty of plants, but only a few were blooming and the garden wasn’t as wide as I expected. And when the guardians informed us that the garden would have closed at 1.00 p.m., leaving us only half an hour to visit it we were about to give up, not entering at all. We were seduced and entered it only when the guardians offered us discount tickets (1€ instead of 4€). Honestly, if I had to pay the full ticket I probably would have regretted the visit. However, I can be honest enough to say that in a few weeks fully blooming plants will surely make the garden fully attractive…
We got something for lunch and ate at one of the cloisters of the Basilica, then went straight forward to Pala Fabris where the skating competition was to take place. Even though the competition timetable had been completely rescheduled it was no drama, for we luckily had the taxi company phone number Speaking about the competition, I didn’t know what to expect: I very much like ice skating, but I never watched a roller skating competition live and I feared I could get bored. It was very good instead! I appreciated all kinds of competitions – quartets (watch here the video of the team that ranked the second place), synchro as well as small groups – cheering for all competing athletes and I also profited from Monica and Cristina’s expertise as spectators of the 2011 championship (which had taken place in Reggio Emilia) to get to know the difference among the competitions. Step by step I started distinguishing the difficulties inserted in the different skating programmes, the compulsory elements, the steps executed to perfection and those less perfect.
The category of the small groups is maybe the one I liked less, at least until an exceptional group got on track: the current champions, they reaffirmed their supremacy gaining the golden medal also in 2012. The elegance and fluidity of movements, a complicated choreography executed to perfection, the costumes treated in detail and a spectacular programme did awaken my dormant neuron, which conferred upon them the first place well in advance before the jury did. Well, it’s likely I will be willing to repeat the experience next year.
Our coming back to the B&B risked to become dramatic when we saw our taxi backtracked: it could barely drive to the sports hall main entrance after everybody tried to exit the car park at the same time… realizing that the Daylight Saving Time would have come that night, thus compelling us to sleep one hour less, was somehow even more dramatic
