Who’s the doll?

Shiny vinyl-like surfaces, hairsprayed or hyperbrushed styles, brilliant or candylike colors: I perceived in these works by Dutch artist Liesje Reyskens something like a swap between the vibrant beauty of human life and the magic of being a doll. So, the question pops up: yes, but who’s the real doll? I notice all the time in contemporary professional photography – not the amateur hobby I mean - an increasing exploration of the “doll” subject in its brighter and darker sides. And I’m a curious, enjoyed and not acritical observer.

Superfici lucide quasi viniliche, capelli laccati o iperspazzolati, colori squillanti o caramellosi: in qsti lavori dell’olandese Liesje Reyskens ho percepito come uno scambio tra la vibrante bellezza della vita umana e la magia dell’essere bambola. E allora salta su la domanda: sì, ma chi è la vera bambola? Continuo a notare sempre più nella fotografia professionale contemporanea – proprio qlla non amatoriale, dico – l’esplorazione del soggetto “bambola” nei suoi lati più vividi e più oscuri. E io sono un’osservatrice curiosa, che si diverte, non acritica.
