A day in Verona

Per finire non potevo non fare un’accenno a Verona: era da tempo che desideravo visitarla per bene e finalmente ci sono riuscita!Ovviamente la visita all’Arena era doverosa, ed è stata anche molto più interessante di quanto pensassi: è conservata benissimo e ci si sente un po’ antichi gladiatori ad entrarci (da brava romana non sono mai entrata nel Colosseo, ma le altre arene me le sono viste tutte…^^), penso debba essere fantastico assistere ad uno spettacolo lì dentro!Ovviamente la cosa che desideravo più visitare era la casa di Giulietta: da fuori è carinissima, forse un po’ più piccola e con il balcone un po’ più in alto rispetto a come me la immaginavo, ma proprio graziosa e romantica!Solo che dentro è praticamente vuota! Cioè, ti fanno pagare il biglietto per vedere la casa di Giulietta e poi tutto quello che vedi sono due stanze vuote! E’ vero, ci sono i soffitti decorati, le finestre dell’epoca e un muretto con le colonnine proprio delizioso, ma le pareti sono bianche senza quadri o affreschi, e non c’è manco mezzo mobile… insomma ci sono rimasta un po’ male! Infatti poi dentro la casa di Romeo (che abitava proprio lì a due passi) non ci sono mica entrata! E’ di gran lunga molto più carino il balcone degli innamorati a cui si accede (tra l’atro gratis) dal cortile della casa di Giulietta.Inaspettatamente invece la tomba di Giulietta è meglio, c’è un bel chiostro con le stratue e un museo di arazzi da visitare.Per il resto Verona è una città veramente bella, ha uno stile molto particolare, sembra davvero di respirare l’atmosfera delle opere di Shakespeare!Le piazze del centro storico sono una meglio dell’altra, ed il bello è che la parte da visitare è tutta più o meno concentrata in cetntro perciò non si deve fare molta strada per passare da un monumento all’altro (se non fosse che quella zona è tutta un vicolo e noi ci perdevamo ogni 2 x 3, perciò continuando a fare avanti e indietro alla fine avremo come minimo triplicato la strada…).L’unico inconveniente è stato il tempo, che anche se non è stato proprio pessimo, purtroppo non è stato dei migliori…Perciò credo dovrò tornare a vederla con il sole, magari d’estate! ;D
Finally I could not give you an hint of my day spent in Verona:I’ve long waited to visit well this city and finally I succeeded !
Of course a visit to the arena was a duty, and it was also much more interesting than I thought : it is very well preserved and you feel a bit 'like ancient gladiator entering there (as every good Roman I have never entered the Coliseum, but I visited all other arenas spread in Greek and Italy... ^ ^): it should be great to watch a show there.
Of course, the thing I wanted most to visit was Juliet's house : from the outside is very cute , maybe a little ' smaller and the balcony is a bit ' higher compared to how I imagined , but its pretty and romantic!
But inside is almost empty ! That is, they make you pay a ticket to see Juliet's house and then all you see are two empty rooms ! It 's true , there are ornate ceilings , the windows of that era and a wall with columns really adorable in the middle, but the walls are white with no pictures or frescos , and there is not even a furnish ... so it was a little' disappointed! In fact, later, I didn’t want enter in the Romeo’s home ( who lived right there at her doorstep)!
It’s far much nicer the “balcony of lovers” at what you can access (inter alia, free) from the courtyard of Juliet's house .
Unexpectedly, instead, Juliet's tomb is better, there is a beautiful cloister with statue and a museum of tapestries to visit.
For the rest of Verona is a really nice town , has a very particular style: really seems to breathe the atmosphere of Shakespeare's plays !
The squares of the old city are one better than the other, and the best part is that the all the places to visit are more or less concentrated in the center so you do not have to travel far to get from one monument to another ( except that the the whole area is made of alley and we were losing at every step, so continuing to go back and forth at the end we will have at least tripled the way ... ) .
The only downside was the weather , which, even though it was not very bad, unfortunately it was not the best ... So I think I'll have to go see this city again with the sun , maybe in summer! ;D
