accessori magliettosi - t-shirty accessories

  
mi piace un *SACCO* pinterest e ci trovo tantissime idee meravigliose che mi ispirano tanto. il problema è che a volte non riesco a smettere di pensare in certi progetti che voglio fare esattamente come sono e si blocca la mia creatività. quindi ogni tanto mi metto a fare un sacco di proggetti tutti in una volta per sfogare la mia voglia di copiare gli altri per liberare spazio nel cervello alle mie idee originali. in questo caso, volevo ricreare diversi progetti di accessori creati da vecchie magliette senza cucire. (i pin di tutti questi progetti si trovano nel mio board di "refashioning". le pagine originali sono linkati sotto.)
i just *LOVE* pinterest and i find loads of ideas there that truly inspire me. the problem is that sometimes i can't stop thinking about some projects that i want to do exactly as they are and my creativity gets blocked. so every once in a while i just do a bunch of projects all at once to vent my desire to copy other people to make space in my head for my own original ideas. in this case, i wanted to do a few projects making accessories from old t-shirts without sewing. (you can find the pins for all these projects in my "refashioning" board. the original pages are linked below.)

ecco il primo: una collana/sciarpa (non invernale) fatta da strisce di maglietta. avevo pinnato la stessa idea due volte: da qui e da qui. non do un tutorial perché ci sono già in quei link. ma praticamente si taglia delle strisce di maglietta (nel senso orizzontale), facendo dei cerchi. si tirano *l'uno alla volta* (ho provato per prima tutti in una volta, ma non ha funzionato bene) e si allargano, arrotolandosi in una specie di tubo. poi con una striscia di maglietta si legano le strisce insieme dove ci sono le cuciture. visto che ce n'erano cuciture su entrambi i lati, ho legato in due punti, facendo una legatura più lunga dell'altra, giusto per farle diverse. in teoria si può usare lunga, ma preferisco un pochino attorcigliata e girata due volte intorno al collo con le parti legati insieme ad un lato. una cosa bella è che sono riuscita ad usare una maglietta con delle macchiette e anche qualche piccolo buco semplicemente tagliando in modo che i forbici capitassero ai buchi. (è questa che si vede intorno al mio collo nella foto di questo post.)
here's the first one: a necklace/scarf (not for winter) made from t-shirt strips. i'd pinned the same idea twice: from here and here. i'm not writing out a tutorial because they're already in those links. but basically you cut strips from the t-shirt (horizontally), making loops. you pull them *one at a time* (first i tried stretching them all at once, but it doesn't work well) and they stretch out, rolling into a sort of tube. then you tie them together at the seams with an extra fabric strip. seeing as there were seams on both sides, i tied them in two places, making one binding longer than the other, just to make them different. in theory you can wear this long, but i prefer twisting it a little and wrapping it around my neck twice with the bound parts together at one side. one great thing was that i was able to use a t-shirt that had a bunch of little stains and holes just by cutting through the holes. (this is what you see around my neck in the photo of this post.)

secondo esperimento: sciarpa primaverile, sempre visto in due posti diversi: qui e qui. praticamente si taglia la maglietta sotto le maniche, si toglie l'orlo, si fanno dei tagli nella parte inferiore e si tirano come nella collana/sciarpa sopra. due problemi: 1) ho usato una maglietta di viscosa che non si comportava come la maglina di cotone, quindi le striscette non tenevano la forma tirata/arrotolata e 2) non mi piaceva come mi stesse, nè messa intorno al collo una volta nè messa girata due volte. quindi ho deciso di fare un'altro esperimento e di tagliare a strisce anche la parte superiore del tubo di maglietta, lasciando una striscia integra al centro. ugh. neanche così mi piace. sto pensando in come usare questo pezzo di tessuto in un altro modo. ho pensato di creare una gonnellina hawaiiana per una bambola di mia figlia. oppure di cucirla intorno al collo di una maglietta. non lo so. voi? idee?
second experiment: spring scarf, again seen in two different places: here and here. basically you cut the t-shirt under the sleeves, cut off the hem and make a bunch of cuts in the bottom part and pulling them like for the necklace/scarf above. two problems: 1) i used a viscose rayon shirt which didn't act like a cotton tee, so the strips didn't stay pulled/rolled and 2) i didn't like how it looked on me,  neither once nor twice around my neck. so i decided to make another experiment and cut strips on the top part of the cut shirt, too, leaving a central strip keeping them all together. ugh. i don't like this either. i'm trying to think of how to use this piece of fabric now in some other way. i thought i could make a hawaiian skirt for one of my daughter's dolls. or sew it along the neckline o a t-shirt. i don't know. do any of you have any ideas?

anyway, experiment failed!

il prossimo progetto da provare ho visto in tre posti: qui, qui e qui. si tratta di strisce di maglietta annodate e fatte a fascia per i capelli o bracciale. dopo qualche prova, sono diventata esperta a fare il nodo decentemente. ho fatto delle strisce di maglietta più doppie invece di usare più strisce sottili come fanno loro.
i saw the next project in three places: here, here and here. it's made by knotting strips of t-shirt and making them into hairbands or bracelets. after a few tries, i got pretty good at making these knots. i made my t-shirt strips wider instead of using various thinner strips as they do.

ho fatto due versioni. prima, quella classica di fascia con il pezzo di maglietta che legano le due strisce sul dietro. diciamo che sono stata un po' idiota per la mia fretta e pigrizia perché 1) l'ho fatto appunto di fretta e 2) non volevo cucire, quindi ho usato solo la colla calda, come alcuni nei tutorial linkati hanno fatto. solo che le due cose insieme non sono andate così bene perché l'ho fatto troppo, troppo larga la prima volta. poi non la potevo più aprire per la colla non-più-calda. quindi ho cercato di infilare due elastici sottili e di cucirli, ma è stato difficile infilarli e cucirli, poi si toglievano, poi era bruttissima, poi alla fine era ANCORA troppo larga per mia figlia. quindi l'ho tagliato via e ho cercato di cucire un pezzo di maglina nuova, come ho fatto per queste fasce (grazie al tutorial di between the lines), ma senza l'elastico dentro. solo che era rimasta un po' di colla e, cucendoci sopra, ho rovinato ben 3 aghi (due nella macchina normale e uno nella taglia cuci) e poi si spezzavano e attorcigliavano i fili dentro la taglia cuci e ho avuto un sacco di problemi a risistemarli (se hai una macchina taglia cuci, sai che scocciatura è infilare i cotoni...).
i made two versions of it. first a classic headband version with a piece of t-shirt joining the two strips behind. let's just say that i was a bit of a moron and worked in great haste and laziness because 1) i was hurrying through most of it and 2) i didn't want to sew, so i used a hot glue gun as some of the linked tutorials did. but those two don't go too well together because the first time i made it waaaaaayyy too wide. then i couldn't open it up anymore because of the no-longer-hot-glue. so i tried to stick two thin elastics in and sew them, but it was hard to slip them in and sew them in place, then they slipped out of place, then it was ugly as heck, then in the end it was STILL too wide for my daughter. so i cut it off and tried to sew on a new piece of jersey, as i did with these headbands (thanks to between the lines' tutorial), but without the elastic inside. except there was still some glue left over inside and, sewing over it,  i managed to ruin 3 needles (two for the regular sewing machine and one for the overlocker) and then the threads got all broken and tangled inside the overlocker and i had a lot of issues getting everything all set up again (if you have an overlocker, you already know what a pain in the bottom it is to thread one...).

finalmente ci sono riuscita e quella che si vede sopra è il risultato... questa volta un po' troppo stretta per mia figlia!!!  argh! quindi ora la devo fare di nuovo. il morale della storia? non serve MAI lavorare di fretta e/o evitare di provare un progetto adosso perché probabilmente ci metterai molto più tempo alla fine!!
finally i managed and you can see the result above... this time a little too tight for my daughter!!! argh! so now i have to do it yet again. moral of the story? it NEVER pays to work in a hurry and/or skipping trying a project one because it will probably end up taking you a lot more time in the end!!

avevo ancora un bel po' di questa stoffa da usare, quindi ne ho fatta un'altra, ma questa volta ho lasciato lunghe le strisce. da un lato (quello blu scuro) ho cucito le estremità in modo di formare un cerchio e l'altro lato ho lasciato così. in questo modo si può infilare un lato dentro il cerchio e annodarlo per non risultare nè troppo stretta la fascia nè troppo larga.
i still had a lot of this fabric left over, so i made another, but this time leaving the strips long. on one side (the navy blue one) i sewed the strip ends together to make a circle and left the other end hanging loose. this way you can slip on end into the loop at the other end and tie it so the headband won't be too tight nor too wide.

funziona! ci vuole un attimo in più quando se la metti, ma almeno così si può usare su qualunque testa di qualunque misura. e mi piace l'estremità non cucita che scende fra i capelli.
it works! it takes a moment extra when putting it one, but at least this way whatever sized head can wear it. and i like how the non-sewn ends hang down in my hair.

volevo anche fare questa sciarpa sempre con un nodo simile a quello nelle fasce e ho già scelto le magliette, ma non ho ancora trovato il tempo. e comunque si deve cucire, quindi non c'entra completamente con questa raccolta magliettosa non-cucita.
i also wanted to make this scarf, again with a similar knot as the headbands and i've already chosen the t-shirts, but i just haven't had time yet. and in any case you have to sew it, so it doesn't really fit in with this non-sewn-t-shirty collection.

dopo l'attività di recupero fatta con i bimbi la settimana scorsa, mi sono avanzate diverse strisce tagliate di maniche di magliette e non ero sicura che farne. erano pure dei colori noiosi perché i bimbi ovviamente hanno scelto i colori più carini. avendo sfogato il desiderio di copiare i progetti degli altri, la mia mente era abbastanza libera per poter pensare un po' e mi sono resa conto che potevo fare una versione del primo progetto di cui ho parlato, ovvero una collana a scala di grigi!
after the upcycling activity i did with kids last week, i had a bunch of t-shirt sleeve strips left over and i wasn't sure what to do with them. they were even boring colors because the kids obviously chose the nicer ones. having gotten my copying spree out of my system, my brain was a little more freed up to think a bit and i realized that i could do a version of the first project i wrote about here: a grayscale necklace!

le strisce di maniche tirate si sono rivelate perfette per una collana e alla fine mi sembra molto elegante l'insieme di bianco, nero e grigio. in più, le maniche sono cucite solo sotto l'ascella, quindi c'è una sola cucitura da coprire (che ho fatto con l'unica striscia colorata che mi era rimasta, blu scuro).
stretched strips from t-shirt sleeves ended up being perfect for a necklace and in the end i think it's actually quite elegant, with its mix of black, wihte and gray. in addition, sleeves are only sewn under the armpit, so there's only one seam to cover (which i did with the one colored strip that was left over, dark blue).
esperimento: riuscito! anzi, mi sa che di questi quattro progetti maglietta-riciclosi, questo qui che ho pensato io è il mio preferito!
experiment: successful! actually, i think that of these four t-shirt upcycling projets, this one that i thought of myself is my favorite!
