...??? questo è il biglietto che mia figlia ha trovato nel calendario dell'avvento ieri mattina. avete idea che vorrà dire? dovrete leggere ancora per sapere. per prima, ho una dichiarazione da fare: mia sorella a volte pensa che io sia una pattumiera. (sì, sto parlando di te, cara sorella!) ma non fraintendete... ne sono contentissima! oltre a parecchi vestiti molto carini (ad esempio, questa gonna), ma passa le cose più diverse fra loro. ad esempio una piccola laminatrice. insieme a due cartucce speciali: una che ha un film con dell'adesivo sotto per creare dei stickers e una con uno strato sottile di calamita tagliabile sotto. e quindi ogni tanto facciamo calamite molto simpatiche dai disegni di mia figlia, ad esempio questi che abbiamo fatto più di un anno fa:

(yes, i'm talking about you, dear sister!) but don't get me wrong... i love it! besides the very cool clothes she's passed my way (for example, this skirt), she also give me all sorts of other stuff. for example, a little laminator. with two special cartridges: one with adhesive to make sticker and one with a very thin, cutable magnet layer underneath. and so every so often we make very adorable magnets from my girl's drawings, like these ones we made a bit over a year ago:

mentre faceva i biglietti di auguri di natale, sofia ha detto che sarebbe carino fare delle calamite da spedire dentro i biglietti. era un'ottima idea perché sono molto sottili, non rompono e il peso è minimo. quindi il giorno dopo (4 dicembre) l'ho detto di fare dei disegni di natale, ma anche altri non natalizi se voleva.
while she was making her christmas cards, sofia said that it would be cool if we made some magnets to send inside the cards. it was really a good idea because they're very thin, the don't break and the weight is virtually null. so the next day (december 4) i told her to do some christmas drawings, but also other non-christmas ones if she wanted.

ovviamente è successo proprio ora che volevo documentare la procedura che è finito il rullo magnetico in mezzo ad un disegno (ma non importa alla fine perché si attacca lo stesso e poi si taglia via il resto) e la plastica si è piegata un po' di aria nel rullo nuovo. ma non mi era mai successo prima!
obviously it had to happen now that i was documenting the procedure that the magnetic roll ran out in the middle of a drawing (but it doesn't matter because it still sticks anyway and they you just cut away the rest) and the plastic folded a bit in the new roll, making a crease. but that had never happened to me before!
poi si tagliano le forme. (vedete? non si nota proprio le difficoltà dopo averli tagliati.)
then you cut out the shapes. (see, you can't even tell that there were issues after cutting them out.)
l'unica cosa che non mi piace di questa macchina (a parte il costo delle cartucce) è che si spreca un bel po' di materiale laminato sia all'inizio che alla fine di passare il foglio. ma io recupero sempre quei pezzi perché si possono sempre usare per fare altre calamite, incollandoci sopra altri disegni o applicandoci dei stickers.
the one thing that i don't like about this laminator (besides the expense of the cartridges) is that a lot of the laminating material gets wasted at the beginning and at the end of each piece of paper. but i always save these pieces because you can still use them to make other magnets by gluing drawing on top or sticking stickers on them.

l'attività di questo giorno è grazie ad un progetto di play at home mom che è stato fra i primi che ho aggiunto sulle mie bacheche di pinterest. si tratta di laminare le foto delle facce in modo che si può disegnarci sopra più volte con i pennarelli per la lavagna bianca.
this day's activity is thanks to a project by play at home mom which was amongst the first that i pinned upon joining pinterest. what it is is that you laminate photos of faces so you can draw on them many times with whiteboard markers.
ma questa volta ho usato quella plastica trasparente adesiva che si trova in rotoli nei negozi di ferramenta o dei vernici o nelle cartolerie ben fornite.
but this time i used transparent contact paper.
si stampa qualche foto grande del viso di qualcuno che vorresti prendere in giro e si attacca questa pellicola sul fronte e sul retro. pensavo di tagliare intorno alla testa, ma sofia voleva tutta la foto, quindi abbiamo solo tolto la plastica in eccesso. alla fine, aveva ragione perché così si può abbellire ancora di più.
you print out some large photos of the face of someone you'd like to make fun of and stick the contact paper onto the front and back. i'd intended to cut around the head, but sofia wanted the whole photo, so we just trimmed the excess plastic. in the end, she was right because that way they can be embellished even more.

at first she wasn't totally sure what to do, so i helped her. together we did her (you can see the original photo here)... and teacher macchia.
poi si toglie il colore con quel feltrino che spesso si trova nei pacchi dei pennarelli per lavagna bianca o uno straccio. non si toglie sempre perfettamente, ma si può anche usare un panno umido.
then you erase the marker with those dry erase marker erasers or a rag. they don't always come off perfectly, but you can also use a damp rag.
poi il piccolo voleva "boobie...again" ("tetta...ancora"), quindi l'ho lasciata da sola. ma ogni tanto veniva da me per farmi vedere la sua interpretazione di nicky (con i suoi colori preferiti sulla fronte e una verme che gli esce dal naso) ...
then mr. nicky wanted some "boobie...again", so i left her on her own. but every so often she'd come to me to show me her interpretation of nicky (with his favorite colors on his forehead and a worm coming out of his nose)...

questa carta adesiva è molto utile anche per altre cose. qualche mese fa l'ho usato per sistemare i pezzi di carta...
contact paper is very useful for other things, too. a few months back i used it to put back together the paper pieces...

... e di comporre i gelati più assurdi dal cono rotto. abbiamo fatto un sacco di risate, ma lo sapete che a lancusi, in provincia di salerno, c'è una gelateria che fa dei gusti inpensabili di gelato, e quindi alcuni di questi abbinamenti sotto ho pure provato? mi sono anche piaciuti i gelati a cipolla, a sedano e a finocchio (soprattutto a sedano, che era molto rinfrescante), ma quello a baccalà faceva proprio schifo!
...and make the most ridiculous ice creams from the broken cone. we laughed our heads off, but you know that in lancusi, province of salerno, there's a gelateria that makes the most improbable ice cream flavors imaginable, and i have tried some of them? i actually did like the onion, celery and fennel ones (especially celery, which was very refreshing), but the baccalà (salted cod) one was absolutely narsty!
