Around the Cornwall

Dopo aver passato più di una settimana a Londra, abbiamo attraversato la Cornovaglia: devo ammettere che non nutrivo grandi aspettative sull'itinerario ma mi sono dovuta ricredere, è stato un viaggio interessante e davvero molto suggestivo.
La differenza tra Londra ed il resto delle cittadine che abbiamo visitato è abissale. Londra è una città frenetica piena di gente e di cose da fare a da vedere, le cittadine della Cornovaglia invece sono tranquille e con molti tratti tradizionali, immerse nel verde di prati  e campi sterminati ed ordinatissimi.
Devo dire che è stato proprio in questa seconda parte del viaggio che ho avuto la sensazione di vedere la "vera" Inghilterra, tranquilla, tradizionalista e fatta di gente simpatica e alla mano.
Oltretutto ho avuto modo anche di constatare quanto sia diversa la campagna inglese rispetto alla nostra: fondamentalmente le mancano i colori e quella "dolcezza" che caratterizza la campagna toscana e del Lazio, però è piatta, verdissima e "silenziosa", ha un che di misterioso e affascinante.
Il vero dramma sono stati la lingua ed il cibo: dopo una settimana a Londra mi ero già illusa di capire l'inglese, ma quando parlava qualcuno non capivo nemmeno se me lo ripetevano lentamente... e lì sono tutti gran chiacchieroni!
Sul cibo meglio stendere un velo pietoso: diciamo che ci siamo ridotti a comprare pane e prosciutto al supermercato pur di evitare i ristoranti...
After spendingt more than a week in London, we went through the Cornwall: I must admit that I had not high expectations on this trip but I had to change my mind, it was an interesting and very impressive.
The difference between London and the rest of the towns we visited is abysmal. London is a busy city full of people and things to do to see, the city of Cornwall instead are quiet and with many traditional features, surrounded by green meadows and endless fields, very ordered.I must say that it was in this second part of the trip I had the feeling of seeing the "real" England, quiet, conservative and made of nice and easygoing people.
Besides, I also got to see how different is the English countryside compared to our: basically lacks the colors and the "sweetness" that characterizes the Tuscan and Latian countryside, however, is flat, very green and "silent", has something mysterious and fascinating.
The real drama was the language and the food: after a week in London I had already deluded to understand English, but when someone spoke, I did not understand almost everything, even if  they repeated slowly ... and there are all great talkers!The food eas even worst: we ended to be reduced to buy bread and ham to the supermarket just to avoid restaurants ...
STONEHENGE è stata la prima tappa del nostro itinerario.
Desideravo tanto vederla, ed è uno spettacolo impressionante. Per la verità mi aspettavo che sia il sito che le costruzioni fossero più grandi,  però è stata ugualmente un'esperienza molto particolare.
In sè per sè non sarebbe nemmeno nulla di così incredibile (in confonto, che so alle piramidi o a Leptis Magna) però c'è una strana atmosfera lì intorno, te ne rendi subito conto, e poi vedi che, nonostante si trovi in aperta campagna, tutti i turisti parlano sottovoce e si muovono con cautela lì intorno...

I longed to see it and it is an impressive sight To be honest I expected that both the site and the buildings were larger, but still was also a very special experience
It would not even anything so incredible (if you confront it with the pyramids or Leptis Magna), but there's a strange atmosphere around there, you'll make immediately realize, and then you see that, despite being in open countryside , all tourists speak softly and move with caution around there ...










Poco più in là del sito di Stonehenge c'è una bella ricostruzione di un villaggio primitivo, con le capanne, gli utnsili e tutto il resto, e si può entrare ed uscire dalle capanne, toccare le cose, ecc. Insomma sembrava una stupidaggine ma noi ci abbiamo preso gusto!^^
A little farther on the site of Stonehenge there is a beautiful reconstruction of a primitive village, with huts, the feature and everything else, and you can enter their huts, touch things, etc So it seemed silly but we have  really liked it! ^^










SALISBURY è la cittadina vicina a Stonehenge: è tranqulla e caratteristica ed ha una bellissima cattedrale gotica nella quale si trova anche una copia della Magna Charta .
SALISBURY is the town near Stonehenge is quiet and characteristic and has a beautiful Gothic cathedral in which there is also a copy of the Magna Charta















GLASTONBURY è la cittadina che mi è piaciuta di più, devo dire che quando stavo lì quasi lìho preferita a Londra!
La città in sè è simile a Salisbury, con quell'architettura caratteristica ed i numerosi pub e localini tipici inglesi, ma ha un che di speciale: lì l'eredità dei miti e delle leggende legate e re Artù si sente davvero molto.
La cosa più bella da vedere sono le rovine dell'Abbazia, che in realtà sono solo rovine, appunto, ma sembrano un'opera d'arte che si fonde con la natura circostante.
Poi c'è il Chalice Well, un pozzo dove dicono sia stato seppellito il Santo Graal, non poi è tanto interessante, però c'è una bellissima pavimentazione con un al centro un fossile.
Infine c'è Glastonbury Tor, una semplice torre in stile gotico in cima ad una collinetta vicino a Glastonbury, che però offre uno spettacolo incredibile!

GLASTONBURY is the town that I liked most, I must say that when I was there I almost Liked it more than London!
The city itself is like Salisbury, with that architecture and typical English pubs and cafes, but has something special: there the inheritance of the myths and legends about King Arthur and they feel very much.
The best thing to see are the ruins of the Abbey, which in reality are only ruins, exactly, but it seems a work of art that blends with the surrounding nature
Then there is the Chalice Well, a well where they say was buried the Holy Grail, that it is not so interesting, but there is a beautiful pavement with a fosil in the center
Finally the Galstonbury Tor, a simple tower in Gothic style on top of a hill near Glastonbury, but offers an amazing sight!













Infine abbiamo raggiunto TINTAGEL: é la cittadina meno bella tra le tre, però qualche bell'edificio in stile inglese lo si trova lo stesso.
Le caratteristiche che la rendono interessante sono le rovine del castello sul mare e la grotta di Merlino, raggiungibili dopo una bella camminata (ciascuna) e molto molto suggestive (vabbè la Grotta di Merlino un pò meno, anzi non è proprio niente di che, i miei si sarebbero evitati volentieri la camminata - anche perchè era la fine del viaggio e cominciavano ad accusare la stanchezza-)
Finally we reached TINTAGEL: the town is the less beautiful of the three, but you can still found some nice building in English style
The characteristics that make it interesting are the ruins of the castle on the sea and the cave of Merlin, reached after a brisk walk (each) and very very suggestive (ok, the Merlin's Cave a little less, in fact it is nothing special, the myMy parents would willingly avoided the walk - also because it was the end of the journey and began to accuse the fatigue -)
