Babylonians VS Rothko

Eccoci invece a trattare di ciò che nel mio weekend (da giovedì a domenica) è andato alla grande. Tommaso, l’amico di Giacomo che siamo andati a trovare, giovedì e venerdì era impegnato con il lavoro (Tommaso è un ottimo grafico)(qui trovate i suoi lavori) e allora ci siamo dedicati al tour più classico (io ero l’unica del gruppo ad aver già visitato Londra), per poi farci accompagnare da Tommaso in pubs-tour e mercatini più o meno underground nei quartieri più giovani e artisticamente vivaci della capitale.
Here we are to speak eventually about what, in my weekend (from Thursday to Sunday) was great. Tommaso, Giacomo's friend we visited, Thursday and Friday was busy at work (he is an excellent graphic) (here you can find his works) and so we dedicated our time into the classical tour (I was the only one in our group that had already visited London), and during the other days, Tommaso take us getting around pubs and more or less underground markets in younger and artistically vibrant district of the capital.

Appena arrivati, siccome avevamo le valige appresso, abbiamo escogitato una strategia per muoverci senza noie: siamo andati a visitare la National Gallery a Trafalgar Square, lasciando le valige nel deposito del museo, e andandole a ritirare solo quando era ora di muoverci verso casa (siamo anche usciti dal museo, lasciando le valige). Questo ci ha permesso di essere liberi da pesi senza spendere un euro di deposito – in più l’ingesso alla National è ad offerta libera!
Il tour alla National è stato stancante ma soddisfacente: più ricco ed interessante del Louvre, offre una panoramica su tutta la pittura europea dal 1300 agli impressionisti. La collezione è davvero impressionante e vanta alcune opere di: Vermeer, Cezanne, Surat, Monet, Rembrant, Van Gogh, Van Eyck, Piero della Francesca, Paolo Uccello, Michelangelo, Raffaello, Caravaggio, Leonardo, Botticelli... per citare i più famosi.

Inoltre la piazza è sempre piena di artisti di strada che attireranno la vostra attenzione, non ignorateli sarà un bello spettacolo!
Just arrived, we obviously had our luggage with us, and so we devised a strategy to move without trouble: we went to visit the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square, leaving our bags in the storage of the museum, and withdraw them only when it was time to move back home (we also exited from the museum, leaving the bags here). This allowed us to be free without spending a euro for deposit - in addiction- entrance of the National is a free offer!
The tour at the National was tiring but satisfying: a richer, more interesting collection than the Louvre's one, offers an overview of the whole European painting from 1300 to the Impressionists. The collection is impressive and boasts same masterpieces by: Vermeer, Cezanne, Surat, Monet, Rembrant, Van Gogh, Van Eyck, Piero della Francesca, Paolo Uccello, Michelangelo, Raphael, Caravaggio, Leonardo, Botticelli... for quoting the most famous.

In addition, the square is always full of street artists who will draw your attention,do not ignore them will be a good show!

La mia galleria preferita a Londra resta probabilmente la Tate Modern. Altro museo interessante è il Victoria and Albert Museum (di cui adoro il book shop!). Non abbiamo visitato questa volta nessuno di questi, per mancanza di tempi e siccome Giacomo (a differenza mia) non è un appassionato di arte moderna e contemporanea.Lui puntava di più al British Museum – preferisce di gran lunga l’arte babilonese ad Andy Warhol, per intenderci.
Nel 2010 con Ilaria ero stata però proprio alla Tate Modern e al British (per l’occasione ci aveva raggiunto Sara, un’amica di facolà a Londra per un corso estivo). Vi lascio qualche foto per darvi un’idea.
My favorite gallery in London is probably the Tate Modern. Another interesting museum is the Victoria and Albert Museum (I'm in love with its book shop!!). We have not visited this time none of these, for lack of time and because Giacomo (unlike me) is not a fan of modern and contemporary art.
He was aiming more for the British Museum - he much prefers Babylonian art to Andy Warhol, for instance.
In 2009 with Ilaria, however, I have been at the Tate Modern and the British. I leave you some pictures to give you an idea.

La Tate Modern oltre ad ospitare opere dei miei artisti prediletti (da Monet a Rotcko) ha forse il miglior allestimento che io abbia mai visto. Il modo in cui sono abbinati quadri (finalmente non solo in ordine cronologico!!), creando fil rouge tra varie epoche e correnti, facendo dialogare Lictenstein con Boccioni, Pollock con Monet, giocando con la riproducibilità della pop-art e facendo della 'cow' di Warhol la tappezzeria su cui appendere il suo dollaro, è il modo giusto per fare nel museo la lettura e la rilettura delle opere d’arte – unico modo, a mio parere, per tenerle vive.
The Tate Modern as well as hold the works of my favorite artists (Monet, Rotcko) has probably the best setup I've ever seen. The way the pictures are combined (finally not only in chronological order!), creates common thread between different ages and currents, making Lictenstein dialoguing with Boccioni, Pollock with Monet, playing with the reproducibility of pop art and making the Warhol's dollar, his tapestry on which to hang his 'cow'. It is the right way to make reading and rereading the works of art in the museum - the only way, in my opinion, to keep them alive.
