While Andreas Melbostad will be the special guest of the 85th edition of Pitti Immagine Uomo with Diesel Black Gold, Barbara Casasola will be the womenswear guest designer.
“We chose Barbara Casasola to be the next Pitti women’s guest designer,” said Lapo Cianchi, director of communication at Pitti Immagine, “mainly because we loved her last few collections which had a clean, modern, sophisticated yet seductive and glamorous look. It is as though the openly minimal and romantic style conceals – and almost represses – a desire for greater affirmation and strength. This could also reflect an important part of her personality. Barbara Casasola is a young woman who has worked with a number of top fashion houses. She is proud of her homeland, Brazil, but has chosen to live and work in London, in a highly competitive environment. All her work is produced in Italy and this is another reason why we are interested in her. We are convinced that she is on the verge of taking her place on the front line of international women’s fashion and that is why we offered her a platform at Pitti.”
The designer, born in Brazil in 1984 but based in London, studied at Central Saint Martins and then at Istituto Marangoni in Milan, where she graduated in 2007. After her studies, she worked for Roberto Cavalli as an assistant designer for womenswear, for Sonia Rykiel, together with Gabrielle Greiss, then creative director of the brand, for See by Chloé and for Lanvin. Then in 2012 she founded her own label in São Paulo.
