Beauty: retrò ispired

Quando si pensa al make-up retrò l'immaginazione va subito allo stile degli anni50, si pensa a Grace Kelly, Sophia Loren, Audrey Hepburn, Maureen O 'Hara e le altre star di Hollywood. Ed il motivo è semplice: queste non erano solo le icone della moda, ma icone di bellezza per le donne di tutto il mondo. Il loro make-up non solo definì un'epoca, ma è stato senza dubbio il più glamour e femminile di tutti i tempi.
I colori pastello spopolavano in quel decennio, rosa, verdi, blu e gialli, e se mai ci possa essere un colore per definire un'epoca, per il 1950 sarebbe stato sicuramente il rosa. Mentre il rosso lacca era il colore preferito nel 1940 per i rossetti, il rosa, i viola-rossi ed il corallo erano al centro della scena nei primi anni 1950. E ci fu tutto un fiorire di libri e riviste che suggerivano alle donne come realizzare e quale make-up indossare a seconda del momento della giornata, e naturalemtne con quali abiti abbinarlo.
Dunque pelle chiarissima e colori pastello erano i capisaldi. La delicatezza era l'obiettivo ed il fondotinta il cosmetico più importante. A differenza del 1940, quando una piccola quantità di cipria era il massimo alla portata della amggior parte delle donne, adesso ogni giorno iniziava con una buona base di fondotinta, che trasformasse in viso nel supporto perfetto per il make up, da completare con blush e cipria naturalmente.
Inoltre è proprio in quegli anni che divenne di uso comune estendere il confine naturale della bocca con la matita, rendendo le labbra più voluttuose e femminili.  Un sondaggio del 1951 ha rilevato che più di due terzi delle donne indossavano regolarmente il rossetto: rosa e rossi erano i colori più popolari. I rossetti rosso-arancione erano i preferiti per bionde, rosse e castane chiare; quelli sul viola-rosso per i capelli scuri.
Il make up occhi era essenzialmente minimal, con poco ombretto. Il Mascara però era l’accessorio preferito da tutte e veniva applicato generosamente. Altro must have del’epoca era l’eyeliner lungo le ciglia superiori, che apriva molto lo sguardo. Molte donne usavano inoltre il blush per dare leggero ritocco alle sopracciglia, soprattutto per la sera.

Pastels ruled in this decade, pale pinks, greens, blues and yellows, and if ever there was a color that showcased an era, it was the color pink for the 1950s. While Russian red was the favourite lip gloss color in the 1940s, it was pinks, purple-reds, and orange-reds  which took centre stage in the early 1950s. beauty books of the era spent pages and pages advising women on what make-up to wear, for what times of the day, and with with which costumes. The art was known as Color Keying Pale skin was back again, and pastel hues in powder. Delicacy was the goal for foundation creams that had the supremacy in a woman’s handbag. Unlike the 1940s, when a dab of powder was all that was available or affordable for a woman, now every day began with a foundation base, a mask like complexion – a blank canvas.You completed the look with peachy or flesh coloured powder. was common now to extend the natural border of your mouth with liner, making a girls look more feminine and – well – voluptious ! Pinks and Reds were the common mix. Orange-red lipsticks for blonde hair, redheads and other medium dark colors; and purple-red lipsticks for dark haired . A survey in 1951 found that more than two thirds of women now regularly wore lipstick. The eye look of the 1950s was essentially minimal, with little eyeshadow applied. Mascara on the other-hand was everyone’s favorite little accessory. Generous dabs of the stuff added a flushing femininity to a woman.A soft but definite liner was then applied along the upper lash and softly swept out in an arch, opening up the eyes. many women used their blush for an ever so light touch-up over the brows, in the evening time. Rosy and pastel hues of rouge applied to the apple of the cheek finished off the look.
