Daddy's inspiration: Toiletries

Come spesso avviene, quando viene a mancare una persona cara a noi cara, molte delle sue cose e dei suoi oggetti personali, rimangono nello stesso posto per anni, quasi come fossero in attesa di essere utilizzate dai legittimi proprietari. Così è accaduto nella mia casa, dove ci sono molti angoli sacri, dove profumi ed effetti personali di mio padre sono rimasti li dove lui li aveva lasciati, a sottolineare il peso della sua assenza e l'importanza di mantenere vivo il suo imponente ricordo.
Vi avevo già parlato dei profumi Penhaligon's e oggi vi mostro i principali fra i suoi essentials da toilette.
L'hair tonic, l'after shave, l'acqua di colonia, i profumi e le saponette Yardley's, altra famosa casa profumiera londinese che celebra le virtù dei giardini inglesi e dei loro fiori, in particolare la lavanda, nota utilizzatissima da uomini e donne; la celebre pasta dentifricia Marvis e l'Eau de Cologne du Coq e quella Imperiale di Guerlain fresche, le colonie francesi nate rispettivamente nel 1894 e 1860 (per soddisfare i capricci dell'imperatrice Eugénie de Montijo, moglie di Napoleone III) profumatissime e leggere, che amo particolarmente perché confezionate in splendide bottiglie di vetro decorato e capaci di evocare tanti bei ricordi di quando ero bambina. Immancabili per la cura dei capelli e della barba i pettini e i set Koh-i-noor.
Proprio a proposito dei capelli, vorrei condividere con voi una piccola curiosità che riguardava quelli del mio papà: erano lisci come la seta e nerissimi, tanto che spesso gli chiedevo come facesse ad avere un colore così nitido anche a tarda età con pochissimi capelli bianchi solo ai lati, vicino le basette. Lui mi rispondeva dicendo che il suo segreto era quello di non aver mai toccato uno shampoo nella sua vita, ma di essersi lavato ogni giorno con queste saponette.
Siccome ero incredula, provai a lavare i miei (che all'epoca erano decisamente più corti) allo stesso modo e come potete immaginare, il risultato fu completamente diverso. Se già oggi cambiando shampoo sono in grado di ricreare la criniera naturale di un leone in età giovanile pensate al risultato che poteva provocare allora un sapone super-sgrassante e profumato come quello in questione. Appunto, meglio risparmiare i dettagli! Per cui come dire, non provateci a casa!
Ovviamente si trattava di una questione di pigmentazione del capello e di abitudine a quel tipo di sapone, nient'altro.
Ciò non toglie che questi prodotti siano fantastici e senza tempo. Sono trascorsi forse 40 anni e sono ancora utilizzabili. E poi il profumo è tale che li si può lasciare anche negli armadi per profumare la biancheria.
Non a caso, tutti i prodotti in questione sono ancora in produzione e sono entrati a far parte delle profumerie di nicchia.
Vi invito a provarli perché oltre ad essere anni luce distanti dai comuni profumi sono anche belli da esporre, costituendo ormai dei veri oggetti d'arredo o perfetti per un regalo da intenditori.
As often happens, when we lost a loved one, many of his belongings remain in the same place for years, almost as if they were waiting to be used again. He answered me by saying that his secret was that he had never touched a shampoo in his life, but washed his hair every day with these soaps.
Since I was in disbelief , I tried to wash mine (which at the time were decidedly shorter ) in the same way and as you can imagine , the result was completely different. If now changing shampoos is able to recreate the natural mane of a lion at a young age, think to the result using a super- degreaser and scented soap like the one in question. In fact, better to save the details ! So as to say , do not try this at home !
Obviously it was a matter of pigmentation of the hair and a habit of that kind of soap, nothing else.
This does not mean that these products are fantastic and timeless. They spent maybe 40 years and are still usable. And then the scent is such that you can even leave them in the wardrobes to scent linen.
Not surprisingly, all these products are still in production and have become part of the niche perfumery .
