ELEFANTI MARINI
In uno studio condotto da Mc Cann nel 1981 sull’ elefante marino ( Mirounga angustirostris ), i maschi vengono classificati all’ interno del branco in precise gerarchie dettate dal successo nella lotta. I perdenti abbandonano la lotta e fuggono inseguiti dal vincitore che sarà così il maschio alfa, saranno tutti a lui subordinati, a quello di rango Beta saranno tutti subordinati tranne il maschio alfa e così via, in una gerarchia lineare. E’ stato notato che durante la stagione riproduttiva la gerarchia è strettamente correlata col succeso copulatorio e quindi con la discendenza.

In a study by Mc Cann in 1981 on elephant seal ( Mirounga angustirostris ), males are classified between themselves in a precise hierarchy dictated by the success in the fight. Losers give up the fight and run away chased by the winner who will become the Alpha male, are all subordinated to him, to the rank of Beta are all subordinatd except the Alpha male and so on, in a lineary hierarchy. It has been noted that during the breeding season, the hyerarchy is strictly correlated with copulatory huge success and therefore the offspring.
