Fashion and the Flag - Diamond Jubilee at Brighton Museum

Not only London is keeping up with the Diamond Jubliee and the 2012 Olympics but Brighton too :-) I just came back from the Brighton Museum where the exhibition Fashion and the Flag opened just a week ago as part of the Diamond Jubilee related events. The 'display features fashions which use the Union Jack as a fabric or design inspiration'. I was really impressed to see such a variety of garments- dresses, jackets, hats, shoes and bags - that haven't been made just in time to celebrate this great year for UK  - a part from the Barbour jacket, made especially for this display -but sfew years ago, to prove that the Union Jack is what a national flag should be: a point of reference, something to be proud of and something that unifies a country and its people. I don't want to be negative towards Italy but, as far as I'm concerned, there aren't many fashion gaments ispired by the Italian flag - apart from those made last year to celebrate the 150th of the Unification.
 Non solo Londra sta al passo con il Diamond Jubilee e le Olimpiadi 2012 ma anche Brighton :-) Sono appena tornato dal Brighton Museum in cui la mostra - gratuita! - Fashion and the Flag ha aperto una settimana fa come parte degli eventi legati al Diamond Jubilee. La 'mostra e' costituita da elementi di moda che usano la Union Jack [nomignolo della bandiera inglese] come ispirazione per il design o il tessuto'. Sono rimasto veramente impressionato dalla varieta' dei capi di abbigliamento - vestiti, giacche, cappelli, scarpe e borse - che non sono stati fatti con l' intento di celebrare quets'anno particolre per l'Inghilterra ma - a parte la giacca Barbour fatta appositamente per la mostra -ma alcuni anni fa, come prova che la Union Jack e' cio' che una bandiera nazionale dovrebbe essere: un punto di riferimento, qualcosa di cui essere orgogliosi e cio' che unifica un paese ed i suoi cittadini. Non volgio essere negativo nei confronti dell'Italia ma, per quanto ne so, non ci sono molti capi di abbigliamento ispirati alla bandiera italiana - a parte quelli fatti per festeggiare i 150 anni dell'Unificazione lo scorso anno.
