Per il "Fashion Works" di oggi siamo lieti di presentarvi una BIG del settore moda italiano, siamo riusciti a procurarci un'intervista con Monica Curetti, Fashion Director di GIOIA...buona lettura XD

I'm Monica Curetti, from May 2010 editorial fashion director of GOIA.
Come sei arrivata a fare questo lavoro? (scuole, corsi..)
Sono nata  a Mondovì, in provincia Cuneo, dopo il liceo scientifico ho lasciato la provincia per l'Istituto Marangoni a Milano pensando di fare tutta un'altra carriera da stilista...fino a quando  un'amica-compagna di studi, un giorno mi ha detto: "tu che sei così eclettica nel tuo stile dovresti provare a lavorare per un giornale!"Ed è li che mi si è aperta una nuova strada (negli anni 90 il nostro mestiere non era ancora così di"moda"!!) Mi sono presentata alla Mondadori senza un appuntamento e senza che nessuno mi conoscesse (avevo "corrotto " i portieri e mi hanno fatta entrare lo stesso a consegnare a mano il mio curriculum!) e così un po' per fortuna, un po' per caparbietà , un po' per il look della giornata ...ho iniziato a fare l'assistente  a" 100 cose"per poi passare  a Marie Claire ( lunga gavetta di 9anni dove ho imparato veramente tutto!), poi Elle e D (l'allegato di Repubblica), e avanti così per anni fino ad arrivare dove sono oggi, è stata molto dura però tutto serve, ogni sforzo che fai ti porta un passo avanti, il nostro mestiere è bellissimo e le sfide cambiano ogni giorno.

Raccontami il tuo lavoro, cosa fai?
GIOIA aveva bisogno di essere riposizionato, è un giornale che ha avuto diversi passaggi durante questi anni.L'ultimo direttore aveva riscosso molto  successo per quel che riguarda il settore attualità ma la moda non piaceva ai lettori e inserzionisti . Io sono arrivata con una piccola troupe di giovanissime stylist (la maggior parte sono le mie ex assistenti!) e con l'aiuto di una bravissima art-director, Susanna Cucco, ho scelto altrettanto giovanissimi fotografi . Il prodotto che ne esce fuori è molto vicino alla donna che piace a me, elegante, un po' trasgressiva,  ma  mai  esagerata nel look , indipendente nelle scelte del suo guardaroba e non si fa troppo influenzare dalle tendenze se non le appartengono. Una donna attentissima al proprio stile, curata e chic sempre!!!
Stiamo lavorando tantissimo, il giornale sembra piacere e il lavoro funziona, il, team è affiatatissimo e anche la redazione moda che ho trovato si è allineata subito con il nuovo corso...non potrei chiedere di meglio, il nuovo Gioia è fatto di tante persone che collaborano insieme , per me il lavoro di gruppo è importantissimo, ogni giorno posso mettermi in discussione con i miei ragazzi e chiedere loro la loro opinione.
Tell me about your job, what do you do?
GOIA needed to be repositioned, and a reporter who has had a number of steps during these years.The'last manager was a great success with regard to the sector but the current fashion is not really connected to readers and advertisers. I arrived with a small crew of young stylist (most of them are myformer assistants!) and with the help of a talented art director, Susanna Cucco, I chose a youngphotographers. The product that comes out is very close to the woman that I like, elegant, a little'unconventional, but never exaggerated look, independent of her wardrobe choices and not do too much influenced by trends if you do not belong. A woman attentively to her own style, chic and alwaystaken care of!
We are working very hard, the magazine seems to like the work, the team is extremely well togetherand even the fashion editorial that I found was in line now with the new course ... I could not ask formore, the new Joy is made up of many people working together, for me the team work is important, every day I get in discussion with my crew and ask them their opinion.
Descrivimi una tua giornata tipo.
Esco di casa alle 8 e torno a casa alle 8, lavoro, lavoro, lavoro. Seguo i servizi fotografici più la redazione, sempre in movimento, e sempre disponibile per tutti  e oggi grazie a internet e skype si lavora più facilmente dappertutto e anche quando sono all'estero non abbandono mai la redazione e controllo tutto !!!!! Adoro essere sul set di un servizio perchè è la parte più creativa del mio lavoro e fino all'ultimo puoi ribaltare tutte le idee che avevi di una storia se arriva un fotografo o un truccatore o un parrucchiere con un 'idea in più vincente...tutto deve essere finalizzato a rendere la modella e i vestiti  attraenti, devi far sognare la lettrice e ancor meglio invogliarla a  desiderare di indossare le stesse cose o a copiare lo stile!  Il lavoro di redazione è infinito e va seguito con amore e se lavori con tanta passione e attenzione ai più piccoli dettagli, trasmetti , secondo me,  ai lettori, un qualcosa in più, un progetto di donna coerente in tantissime scelte anche se diversissime fra loro per temi...
Describe a typical day.
I leave home at 8am and return home at 8pm, work, work, work. I follow the most photo editing,always moving, and always available for all, and now thanks to the internet and skype you can workmore easily everywhere even when they are abroad and never left the drawing and control everything!!!!! I love being on the set of a service because it is the most creative part of my job and you can flipto the last you had any ideas of a story if you get a photographer or makeup artist or hairdresser withan 'idea in the most successful .. . Everything must be aimed at making the model attractive andclothes, you have to dream about the reader and even better to encourage you to want to wear the samethings or to copy the style! The editorial work is endless and should be followed with love and if youwork with passion and attention to the smallest details, transmit, in my opinion, the readers, a little more, a draft of a woman in a lot of choices consistent though different from each other themes...
Un aspetto positivo e uno negativo di questo lavoro.
Di aspetti positivi ne ho detti in quantità industriali, purtroppo quelli negativi sono tutti legati al tempo, ne hai pochissimo per te e per la tua famiglia (ho una bimba di 6 anni che sovente protesta perchè non vado mai, mai a prenderla a scuola o a ginnastica!...però ha capito che la sua è una mamma un po' speciale e non si può avere tutto dalla vita!), e questa la vita che ho deciso di fare!
One positive and one negative aspect of this work.
I have such positive aspects in industrial quantities, unfortunately the negatives are all related to time,you have very little for you and your family (I have a 6 year old daughter often complains that I never,ever to take to school or gymnastics! ... but he understood that his mother is a bit 'special and you can not have everything in life!), and this life that I decided to do!

Una domanda un po' impertinente, ma doverosa... e' un lavoro remunerativo?
Per alcuni si, non nel mio caso!Questo probabilmente è dovuto dal fatto che anche quando ero free-lance ho sempre potuto e voluto dare assoluta priorità al lavoro redazionale a scapito di consulenze per le aziende (che è la parte più remunerativa della nostra professione....)..e in più con il mio carattere molto forte e con la mia famosa schiettezza nel dire sempre cosa penso...non sono mai stata abbastanza accondiscendente per mantenere lunghi rapporti di consulenza!!
A question a bit perky, but necessary ... is it a remunerative work?
For some people yes, not in my case! This is probably due to the fact that even when I was freelance Ialways willing and able to give absolute priority to the drafting work to the detriment of advice forbusinesses (which is the more lucrative part of our profession ....).. and more with my very strong andpopular with my sincerity in what I always say ... I've never been condescending enough to maintainlong relationship advice!
Che caratteristiche dovrebbe avere una persona per poter fare il tuo lavoro?
Deve essere una vera appassionata di moda, di fotografia, di estetica in senso lato della parola...e poi avere un carattere molto forte, determinato, decisionale ed equilibrato (dobbiamo gestire tante persone e molti creativi!!) e nello stesso tempo avere anche un po' di giusta umiltà per potersi sempre mettere in gioco e non perdere la capacità di sentire quello che c'è nell'aria!
What characteristics should a person have to do your job?
It must be a true lover of fashion, photography, esthetics in the broadest sense of the word ... and then have a very strong, determined, and balanced decision-making (we have to manage many people and many creative!) and at the same time have also a bit 'right of humility to be able to always put in the game and not lose the ability to hear what's in the air!
Consiglieresti questa carriera al tuo migliore amico?
Certo che si, (anche a mia figlia!) amo questo lavoro, amo quello che faccio e spero di continuarlo a fare per molto tempo, la moda è sempre stata la mia passione e non intendo cambiare strada ;)
Would you recommend this career to your best friend?
Of course I do, (even my daughter!) I love this job, I love what I do and I hope to continue to do for a long time, fashion has always been my passion and I will not change course ;)
