Giappone a Londra // Japan in London: JP Books

È vero che lasciare il Giappone è stata una mia libera scelta, ma non significa che non mi manchi da impazzire. Fortunatamente Londra è una metropoli cosmopolita in cui si trovano anche angoli di Sol Levante. Esiste già un ottimo sito, Japanese London, da cui partire con l’esplorazione.
La mia prima tappa è stata la libreria JP Books, e non ringrazierò mai abbastanza Gianna per il suggerimento: il negozio in Denman Street è piccino, sì, ma sembra di aver viaggiato senza prendere l’aereo. Se volete fare pratica con la conversazione potete fare due chiacchiere con il personale, tutto giapponese. Gli scaffali sono pieni di guide, materiale per lo studio, romanzi per i quali, presa da un’immediata nostalgia, avrei volentieri dissanguato il portafoglio. La libreria vende anche gadget e articoli da regalo, CD e DVD, oltre a traduzioni in inglese di opere nipponiche. Se non avete in programma di visitare Londra a breve potete dare un’occhiata al negozio online, che effettua spedizioni in tutta Europa (a prezzi comprensibilmente un po’ alti).
Se pensate di passare più di una volta fatevi fare la carta-fedeltà: ogni 4 sterline ricevete un timbro, e con 30 timbri avrete un coupon da 10 sterline sull'acquisto di libri.

Leaving Japan was my own free choice, that’s true, but it doesn’t make me miss it any less. Luckily, London is a cosmopolitan metropolis where you can find little pieces of the Far East too. There’s already a great website, Japanese London, that will lead you through the exploration.
My first stop was JP Books, a bookshop that was recommended to me by Gianna. The shop in Denman Street is on the small side, but getting there you’ll feel like you traveled without getting on a plane. If you want to practice your language skills you can also have a chat with the staff, they’re all Japanese. The shelves are filled with guide books, study material, novels I would have spent all my money for. They also sell gadgets, stationaries, CDs and DVDs, together with English translations of Japanese works. If you’re not planning on visiting London any time soon you can check their online shop, shipping all over Europe (it’s a bit expensive, understandably).
They also have a stamp card: every 4 pound spent you get a stamp, and with 30 stamps you get 10 pounds books voucher.
