Con il suo contratto in scadenza e praticamente fuori dalla prima squadra di calcio nella scorsa stagione, sembra che Andrey Arshavin sia in procinto di lasciare l’Arsenal dopo poco più di 4 anni con i Gunners.
Acquistato per 20 milioni di euro nel gennaio 2009 dallo Zenit San Pietroburgo, Arshavin segnò per la prima volta in una vittoria casalinga per 4-0 sul Blackburn Rovers e iniziò nel migliore dei modi la sua avventura in Inghilterra, nel mese di Aprile è avvenuto il suo migliore exploit con la maglia dell’Arsenal, infatti segnò tutte i 4 gol in un emozionante 4-4 ad Anfield contro il Liverpool.
La stagione 2009-10 è stata probabilmente la suo migliore con l’Arsenal e segnò 12 goal tra cui un altro ad Anfield questa volta decisivo nella vittoria per 2-1, ha anche segnato un goal spettacolare in una sconfitta contro il Man. United.
Il 2010-11 è stata una stagione altalenante per il russo, nonostante abbia giocato 52 volte in tutta la stagione e segnando 10 volte ci sono stati momenti in cui Arshavin è stato criticato per la sua apparente mancanza di impegno ed è stato spesso sostituito ma ci sono stati anche un sacco di momenti memorabili come la sua rete decisiva negli ultimi minuti nella vittoria contro il forte Barcellona all’Emirates in Champions League, ha anche segnato bellissimi gol contro l’A. Villa e il Wigan a Dicembre prima di segnare gol importanti contro Everton e West Brom nel nuovo anno.
Nel 2011-12 Arshavin è stato gradualmente utilizzato di meno, dopo l’arrivo di Gervinho e il ritorno in forma di Tomas Rosicky, ma ha fatto un goal molto importante contro lo Swansea City.
A Gennaio Arshavin è tornato in Russia, allo ZENIT in prestito fino al termine della stagione ed è tornato a giocare costantemente, ben 26 volte in tutto.

With his contract about to expire and with virtually no first team football last season it looks like Andrey Arshavin is about to leave Arsenal after just over 4 years with the Gunners.
A 15 million pound signing in january 2009 from from Zenit st Petersburg , Arshavin netted for the first time in a 4-0 home win over Blackburn Rovers as his time in England started brightly , in April came his finest night in an Arsenal shirt as he netted all 4 goals in a thrilling 4-4 draw at Anfield to dent Liverpool’s title hopes. the following 2009-10 season was probably his best at Arsenal as he netted 12 times including another at Anfield this time the winner in a 2-1 win.
He also scored spectacuarly in a defeat at Man United. 2010-11 was a mixed season for the russian as despite playing 52 times in all competition’s and scoring 10 times there were times when Arshavin was criticised for his apparant lack of work rate and was often substituted but there were also plenty of highlights most memorably his late winner against mighty Barcelona at the Emirates in the champions league , he also netted great goals at Villa and Wigan before Christmas before scoring key goals against Everton and West Brom in the new year. for 2011-12 Arshavin slowly found his chances more limited after the arrival of Gervinho and the return to form of Tomas Rosicky but did net an early season winner against Swansea City.
In january Arshavin moved back to Russia and a return to Zenit on loan till the end of the season and returned to something like his old self as he played 26 times in all. for 2012-13 speculation was rife that the little Russian would return to Russia permenently before surprisingly electing to stay with Arsenal and fight for his place but his season never really started , he came on as a late sub in the opening day draw with Sunderland before netting his only goal of the season in a league cup win over Coventry City.
He made his 100th league apearence for Arsenal as a sub in a defeat at Norwich, in January he came on as a sub in a 2-1 defeat at Chelsea which would turn out to be his final apearence for the Gunners as despite being named as a sub a few times he never took to the pitch again. Arshavin who will soon turn 32 has probably seen his best days but could still be a very usefull player given a run and will probably return to Russia in the summer with Zenit his most likely destination. unfortunatly for Arsenal they never quite saw the best of the little Russian play maker often enough in his stay in England but leaves with pretty decent stats of 31 goals and 41 assists in 143 games for Arsenal.
