How to become a stylist: Marangoni suggestions

Alle porte dell'ultimo anno di liceo, mi trovo a rimuginare sul lavoro che vorrei fare in futuro e si avvicina la scelta del nuovo piano di studi. A tal proposito, mi è arrivato questo articolo di Istituto Marangoni con diversi consigli per chi aspira a diventare uno stilista. Ve lo allego insieme con la mia traduzione in inglese :)

My last high school year is comung, and it's time to think about what I'd like to do in the future and the choice of the new school is nearer everyday. About it, the Marangoni Institute has sent me this article with some suggestions for people who aspire to become a fashion designer. I attach it together with the English translation by me.

“Qual è il lavoro che fa per me?”. Questa è la domanda che popola la mente dei più giovani, specialmente quando si trovano a dover scegliere l’università dei propri sogni. Durante questo periodo è fondamentale fare la scelta giusta, seguendo le nostre aspirazioni ma anche i nostri talenti innati. Oggigiorno le carriere possibili sono innumerevoli e tra le più amate dai creativi troviamo quelle offerte dal fashion system. Migliaia di ragazzi ogni anno decidono di intraprendere corsi mirati per diventare stilista, professione moda di spicco, dove la concorrenza è ormai veramente spietata. Se decidi che questa è la tua strada, ecco alcuni consigli da seguire.

"Which job is perfect for me?". This is the question thath inhabits the mind of the youngest ones, especially when they have to choose their dream-university. During this period making the right choice is essential, following the ambitions but also our natural skills. Nowadays there are a lot of possible careers and the ones offered by the fashion system are the most popular in the field of the creative people. A thousand of teenagers every year decide to start focused courses to become stylists, a really cool job, in which there's a cutthroath competition. If you decide that this is your aim, here some suggestions to follow.

Questo particolare ti permetterà di realizzare la creazione perfetta che il grande pubblico sicuramente amerà.- PortfolioOgni stilista che si rispetti dovrebbe avere un portfolio con i migliori bozzetti, creazioni e lavori realizzati. Un book di questo tipo è a tutti gli effetti il biglietto da visita dello stylist.- Frequenta un corso di disegnoL’abilità nel disegno è alla base del lavoro del fashion designer ed è quindi indispensabile aver frequentato un corso professionale di disegno, o una scuola di moda. Alcuni argomenti specifici che dovresti conoscere sono il drappeggio, come combinare i colori e come disegnare figure e corpi.- Esperienza nel cucitoDevi sapere tutto anche in questo campo, compreso l’utilizzo di macchine da cucito, manuali o automatiche. Puoi frequentare un corso e cimentarti nella realizzazione di abiti per amici e conoscenti, è importante riuscire a capire come adattare alla perfezione un vestito ai vari tipi di corporatura.- Conoscenza dei tessutiDevi conoscere alla perfezione tutti i tessuti presenti sul mercato, le loro caratteristiche e quali sono i migliori per ogni stagione. Può essere importante anche avere un’idea generale di come ogni tessuto viene realizzato.- Stage ed esperienza sul campoIl miglior modo per fare esperienza e imparare dai migliori sono gli stage, spesso organizzati anche dalle stesse fashion school.

These are some important arguments that you ought to know as the drape, how to combine colours and how to represent fugures and bodies.

You have to know everything about this field too, including the use of a sewing machine, manual or automatic. You can attend a course and try a stab at realizing clothes for your friends andacquaintances, the main thing is understanding how to adapt in the perfect way a piece of clothing to each kind of body.
