Interview to a designer: Futurismo Fashion by Valentina LivanInterview both in english and italian
Pictures of the collection will be revealed in september 2012

Q.: Hi!Let's start from the beginning. When and how did you understand that fashion was your path?A.: Hi Mauro!I've always been very sensitive about fashion because I see it as an expression of the personality of the individual, I also liked "playing" with clothes, looking for original items or recovering old pieces converting them into new outfits. Since I'm shy, fashion for me has always been an important channel to meet people and circulate in new and creative environments. What school and work path did you follow for your current position? My mom is a seamstress, I grew up between fabrics, needles, thread and patterns! The funny thing is that despite all this, for many years for me clothes were just a passion: I have an economics degree and I worked in the administrative and commercial area of a large company until a few years ago. Then the turning point: the economic crisis and lack of work satisfaction has given me the courage to really get involved in the fashion industry. After a CAD course and a course in textile modeling I worked with some renowned artisans in my area learning a lot about the art of textiles and packaging. Then it came the experience at TakeTwo, which gave me the opportunity to follow the entire process: from the style to the model, from prototyping to pack and finally the preparation of catalogs and fashion shows. As you can see my path does not include renowned schools, everything has been based on what I learned on the "battle-field" and with thirst to learn as much as possible in order to get something of mine; this, from the beginning, gave me that idea and the tenacity needed to recover lost years working in other sectors.Would you change something or is this a path you'd follow again? My degree and my previous experiences outside fashion world without doubts helped me growing up as a person and as a pro; if I could go back I admit I'd choose a different school path, more specific for what I'm doing nowadays. How would you describe your style?I base all my work on texture and color. I use monochromatic and bright contrast, geometric designs, constantly thinking of how our bodies should be emphasized to make us charming and sure of ourselves. My fashion line could be defined "essential" because of clean lines and because it lacks any accessory in sight. What does inspire you during the creative phase? From everything that surrounds me: I do not seek inspiration from a specific subject, I prefer to observe, feel, live and develop the ideas of what amazes me. I love art and contemporary dance, indie music and underground forms of architecture, so I find inspiration mainly traveling and being around people.

If you had to make a presentation of your project and your collection, how would you describe and introduce it?Futurismo Project is based on innovation: translated into research and creation of fabrics, the study of structures and models in alternative marketing channels.I wish my first collection was worn by women with strong personalities in order to highlight femininity and elegance of women. Nowadays we no longer have time: being perfect and at ease has become a real challenge, so my items have to be versatile, suitable for all occasions, with no accessories to allow each of us to "play" with their beloved objects, shoes, handbags, jewelry, unique and original, or perhaps rather simple travel memories! What's new about Futurismo Fashion Brand?Without doubt the most important innovation is about fabrics; a lot of hard work led to fuse the qualities of fabrics used in sport with much more elegant and fine fabrics.Futurismo Fashion's fabrics can be worn throughout the year because they adapt to body temperature, they have high breathability, do not rub and they are easily washable. Just a tip, I would avoid my cashmere coats in August! ;-)From some photos seen on your Twitter profile we can see pictures of seamstresses (showing craftsmanship) and on several occasions you touch the theme of 'Made in Italy': what do you think of this? What do you believe are the pros and cons of Made in Italy?Made in Italy is synonymous of quality, and I refer to every aspect of my project. For example, before choosing italian companies for the fabrics I've done a lot of research abroad and the decision was not ideological but rather conditioned by the obvious differences in colors, in the tonicity of materials and willingness of companies to work with an emerging designer. It's not true when people say we (Italy) do not invent anything, there is plenty of virtuous companies, the problems lie elsewhere; I mean that, it is obvious that the choice of quality will result, in my case, to a limited production and for a product not suitable for all budgets. But I strongly believe that the crisis should be fought by giving work to many professionals in our villages, expert tailors "abandoned" by the most famous brands, beautiful italian models , young programmers who are so attentive to new channels of communication.Unity, in this case, is strenght, so I'm proud of the team that has been created: young, successful and full of enthusiasm!
In other interviews on my blog to other emerging designers a common problem came up: italian fashion system is great for the presence of so many big brands but it is so close to upcoming designers. What do you think about it? What would you change about it?This is the question that haunts me the most; if you will ask me this in 6 months probably I'll have more elements to reply. Presenting the first collection in september, we have already identified a number of buyers, but we must wait for reactions and especially orders. Our business often defines us as "independent", this mainly because we go out in the traditional mold ... I do not really want to be within the usual! The only certainty is that we do not have seasonality, based on the success of the first collection we will present one every two months, 10/15 models in various colors, we could call it "flash collections"... without carrier, seasonal, collections.Favourite designers, and why?I like buying upcoming designers' items, I love their fresh new approach and I love the fact I can wear almost unique pieces. If you refer to "big names" I'd say without doubt Armani for his clean lines and Balenciaga for the particular approach to colors.Trying to know some leakages: what are future expansions of your fashion line? You start from a womenswear collection, do you think there will be also a menswear collection? We are all thrilled and excited, but we keep our feet on the ground; the idea of expanding fastly scares me. I will start by the presence in at least a store in all major Italian cities and then I'll try with European capitals. We have some contacts for further expansions but for now we think about our country!I don't think about menswear but about kidswear: my fabrics are strong and do not stain easily ... Wouldn't I make all moms happy? Thanks for your availability and 'in bocca al lupo' (it stands for 'good luck')!Thank you for attention you pay to emerging designers... and 'crepi il lupo' (it means 'thanks')!§E' un percorso che rifarebbe o cambierebbe qualcosa?

Quali crede siano i pro e i contro del Made in Italy?
