La magia del Natale a New York

L'atmosfera che si respira a New York nel periodo natalizio é davvero qualcosa di magico. La città si ricopre di luci e diventa ancora più scintillante! In qualsiasi periodo dell'anno New York offre mille e una attrattive, non ci si può davvero annoiare, ma é a Natale che secondo me la città da il meglio di se! Ecco quindi cosa fare (e cosa mangiare) nella Grande Mela durante le vacanze natalizie!

• Pattinaggio sul ghiaccio: lo abbiamo visto nei film e letto nei libri, non é Natale a New York senza una pattinata in una delle tante piste allestite su e giù per Manhattan. Le più famose sono senza dubbio il Woolman Rink a Central Park per divertirsi circondati dallo splendore del parco in una scenografia suggestiva con i palazzi della Quinta Strada proprio come in Serendipity e tanti altri film, Bryant Park proprio alle spalle della NY Pubblic Library e Rockfeller Center sotto l'albero di Natale più celebre d'America

• Lo shopping per i più piccoli (che piace anche ai grandi!) si fa da FAO Swartz, dove tra una Barbie e una statua gigante formata da migliaia e migliaia di mattoncini Lego ci si può divertire a suonare la tastiera di Big e tornare bambini per un momento, oppure da American Girl, il regno di bambole, vestiti e giochi per le piccole signorine. Non può mancare nemmeno una visita al reparto natalizio di Macy's in Herald Square, il regno di Babbo Natale! Chiunque può sedersi sulle sue ginocchia ed elencare tutti i doni che vorrebbe trovare sotto l'albero!

• Per i più grandi non mancano innumerevoli occasioni di shopping nei negozi più prestigiosi della Quinta Strada ma anche sulla Broadway nell'Upper West Side o ancora a Downtown, la mia zona preferita!

• Albero di Natale: il più celebre in assoluto, quello che tutti aspettano trepidanti, si trova al Rockefeller Center. 90000 lucine led e la stella di Swarovski in punta caratterizzano il celebre albero da 90 metri circa che domina Rockfeller Plaza. La cerimonia di accensione è ormai una tradizione irrinunciabile a Manhattan: subito dopo la parata di Macy's per il Thanksgiving essa segna ufficialmente l'inizio della stagione natalizia. Uno spettacolo che lascia davvero senza parole, forse più tra tutti l'emblema del Natale a Manhattan.

• Ammirare (e sognare a occhi aperti) le bellissime vetrine decorate a festa della Quinta Strada, dal Flatiron verso l'Upper East Side. Lord&Taylor, Tiffany, Saks e Barneys ogni anno ammaliano turisti e newyorkesi doc con le loro vetrine allestite ad arte. Ogni volta un tema diverso, una storia che si snoda vetrina dopo vetrina. Incantevoli!

• Lo spettacolo di Natale più atteso è quello delle Rockettes al Radio City Music Hall. Canti e balletti in una delle location che ha fatto la storia della musica in città, una scenografia favolosa per trascorrere un paio di ore indimenticabili.

• Gli amanti dei mercatini troveranno sicuramente ciò che cercano tra Union Square, Bryant Park, Columbus Circle e Grand Central Station che nel mese di Dicembre e fino all' Epifania si addobbano a festa e ospitano gli stand di artigiani e piccoli produttori per dare vita agli ormai famosissimi holiday markets. E' bello passeggiare tra i banchetti natalizi alla ricerca di pezzi unici e glam per sorprendere i propri cari e gli amici con un regalo insolito e personalizzato.
• Natale a New York fa rima con luci e decorazioni. Tutte le vie principali di Manhattan si addobbano letteralmente a festa. Spettacolari le installazioni sulla 6th ave, la cascata di lucine sulla 5th ad abbellire la facciata di Cartier, Times Square, Broadway e poi giù fino a Downtown.

• Non è Natale New York se non si gustano le specialità di stagione, prime tra tutte le mele candite a Central Park. Rosse e lucide, invitanti e golose proprio come quelle dei film! Sempre in tema street food: bon bons e dragees, frutta secca caramellata, l'immancabile egg nog bollente da passeggio e tutte le specialità che Starbucks e le innumerevoli bakeries della città propongono ai fedelissimi clienti e ai nuovi arrivati, per immergersi ancora di più nella magica atmosfera natalizia!

The atmosphere in New York at Christmas time is really something magic. The city is covered with lights and becomes even more sparkling! New York offers always a thousand and one things to do, you can not really get boring, but it is at Christmas that I think the city gives its best! Here is what to do (and what to eat) in the Big Apple during the Christmas holidays!

• Ice skating: you may have seen it in movies and read in books, it is not Christmas in New York without a skating in one of the many tracks arranged up and down Manhattan. The most famous are undoubtedly the Woolman Rink in Central Park to have fun surrounded by the splendor of the park in a picturesque setting with the buildings on the Fifth Avenue just like in the movie "Serendipity" and many other films, Bryant Park just behind NY Pubblic Library and Rockefeller Center under the Christmas tree most famous of America

• Shopping for kids (but also for adults!) by FAO Swartz, where between a Barbie and a giant statue made up of thousands and thousands Lego bricks you can have fun playing the keyboard  shown in the movie "Big" and come back to the childhood for a while. Another absolutely-to-see place is American Girl, the kingdom of dolls, clothes and toys for the little ladies. You can not miss even a visit to the Christmas department of Macy's in Herald Square, the kingdom of Santa Claus! Anyone can sit on his lap and list all the gifts you would like to find under the tree!
• For shopaholics (like me) no shortage countless opportunities along the Fith Ave from Central Park to Flatiron and on but also on Broadway on the Upper West Side or even Downtown, my favorite blocks!
• Christmas tree: the most famous of all, the one that everyone is waiting anxiously, is located at Rockefeller Center. 90000 LED lights and Swarovski star tip characterize the famous tree 90 meters hight overlooking Rockefeller Plaza. The lighting ceremony has become a tradition in Manhattan: immediately after Macy's Thanksgiving Parade it marks the official start of the Christmas season.  A show that really leaves you speechless, perhaps most of all the emblem of Christmas in Manhattan
• Admire (and daydreaming) the beautiful windows decorated along the Fith Ave, from the Flatiron Building to the Upper East Side. Lord & Taylor, Tiffany, Saks and Barneys annually captivate tourists and New Yorkers with their fantastic windows. Each time a different theme, a story that winds showcase after showcase. Lovely!

• The Christmas Show is the most famous show by The Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall. Songs and dances in one of the locations that made the history of music in the city, a fabulous setting to spend a couple of unforgettable hours.
• Fans of markets will certainly find what they need through Union Square, Bryant Park, Columbus Circle and Grand Central Station in the month of December and until the Epiphany.  In this holidays time they host booths of artisans and small producers to give life to the now famous holiday markets. It's nice to walk through the stalls of Christmas Markets in search of something unique and glam to surprise your loved ones and friends with unusual and personalized gifts.
• Christmas in New York rhymes with lights and decorations. All the main streets of Manhattan  are literally festive decorated. Spectacular installations on the 6th ave, the cascade of lights on the 5th to embellish the facade of Cartier, Times Square, Broadway and then down to Downtown.

• It is not Christmas in New York if you do not taste the specialties of the season, first of all the candied apples in Central Park. Red and shiny, inviting and delicious just like those of the movies! And speaking about street food: bon bons and dragees, caramelized nuts, the inevitable egg nog to drink boiling while walking up and down in Manhattan and all the specialties that Starbucks and the countless bakeries in the city offer to their loyal customers and newcomers, to dive them deeper into Christmas atmosphere!
