‘…e ora che il corso di tedesco è finito, cosa farai tutto il giorno?’
Vi presento una tipica domanda-da-calcio-secco-negli-stinchi, se non fosse che in questo caso me l’ha chiesto mio marito e lui posso tranquillamente limitarmi a distruggerlo verbalmente… scherzi a parte, vi giuro che è scoraggiante cercare di spiegare cosa faccio tutto il giorno a chi non ha mai avuto uno shop online (che poi sono quasi tutte le persone che conosco, ovvio).
‘…and now that the German course is finished, what are you going to do the whole day?’ Let me introduce you to a perfect example of well-deserved-kick-in-the-shin-question – even if in this specific case the responsible was my husband, and with him verbal-demolition is enough… ok, I stop joking, but believe me I am so fed up trying to explain what I am doing the whole day to those who never had an online shop (almost everyone I know, of course).


Probabilmente le persone credono che io la mattina non veda l’ora di mollare i bambini all’asilo per infilarmi nella vasca con bicchiere di champagne, e se faccio tardi a prenderli è solo perché non ho finito di asciugarmi i capelli. Nel frattempo, i sassi si dipingono da soli, si fanno le foto a vicenda, Photoshop sistema le immagini sulla fiducia perché mi vuole bene, Etsy mi scrive i listini, Facebook si inventa qualcosa di interessante, e le scope che ho rubato a Topolino spazzano il pavimento di cucina.
People think that I am looking forward to leave my kids at the kindergarden in the mornings so that I can spend half of my day in the bathtub sipping champagne, and if I am late to pick them up it’s because I wasn’t finished drying up my hairs. In the meantime my stones get painted by themselves, take pictures of each other, Photoshop fixes the images for me because we’re good friends, Etsy writes all the listings, and Facebook looks for something interesting to post, while the brooms I stole from Micky Mouse clean up the kitchen.

Non è scoraggiante cercare di farsi notare e trovare un pubblico, è scoraggiante cercare di far capire alla gente quanto tempo effettivamente lavoro – e la risposta è SEMPRE, accidenti, ogni volta che trovo un minuto libero (bambini permettendo, ovvio). Perché mi piace quello che faccio, ma anche perché dipingere non è che la metà della mia attività. Ci vogliono ore per creare ma anche ore prima che il profilo di un prodotto sia finito, senza contare lo studio e la promozione, tunnel in cui si rischia di cadere e non riemergere più.
What’s discouraging is not trying to get noticed and looking for an audience, it’s trying to make common people understand how much I effectively work – and the answer is ALWAYS, damn, every time I can find a minute for it (and I have no kids to take care of). Because I love what I do, but also because painting can take only half of my time. You need hours to create, but also hours before the profile of an item is ready, and moreover you need to study and promote yourself, and these are really dangerous sucking-time tunnels with no end.

Ecco, mi spiace, sono caduta nella lamentela. In realtà quello che volevo raccontarvi è che, malgrado il livello di ‘ignoranza’ generale, io tiro dritta come un treno. Che in questi giorni ho aggiornato lo shop, sistemato finalmente il mio profilo e persino aperto il modulo per l’iscrizione alla newsletter (lo vedete qui a destra? Su, su, non lasciatelo vuoto!). Nelle prossime settimane si prevedono nuovi tutorial, il ritorno dell’indice sul blog con tanto di profilo aggiornato e contatti, una pagina dedicata allo shop, nuove creazioni e, chissà, se avrò abbastanza iscritti anche la prima newsletter! E voi, che sapete cosa combino tutto il giorno, siete pronti ad accompagnarmi?
Ok, I am sorry, I ended up complaining. What I really wanted to say is that, even if I’m surrounded by ‘sarcasm’, I keep on driving straight ahead. In these days I updated the shop, finally rewrote my About section, and even open up the registration for the newsletter (can you see it here on the right? Don’t leave it empty!). In the next weeks there will be new tutorials coming up, the index will be back on the blog, I will prepare a new profile and a contact page for the blog, a page for the shop, restyle the whole thing a bit and, who knows, if I collected enough followers there could be soon the first newsletter coming up!
