Paint of the week - Ofelia

Questa idea mi balenava in testa da molto tempo, così per rimanere in linea con gli obiettivi di condivisione e memoria di chi fosse mio padre, ovvero i più importanti che il mio blog si propone, ho finalmente deciso di fare partire una nuova rubrica all'interno di Daddy's neatness: Paint of the week, grazie alla quale conosceremo insieme alcuni fra i dipinti più interessanti anche se non particolarmente famosi, appartenenti a diversi periodi storici, dal rinascimento sino ai giorni nostri. In questa sentitissima iniziativa, sono lieta di compartecipare il mio caro fratello Mario, che mi assisterà nell'esposizione e nella critica di queste splendide opere d'arte. Essendo una passione comune, crediamo che essa possa essere un piacevole diversivo per offrirvi ogni settimana un momento profondo e pacato, attraverso la riflessione e l'osservazione di soggetti unici e interessanti dai quali distillare un assaggio di pura bellezza.
L'opera che vi presentiamo quest'oggi è Ofelia, un dipinto che risale al 1851 del pittore inglese Jhon Everett Millais, esponente del movimento pittorico dei preraffaelliti e celebre illustratore dell'età vittoriana.
Sentendo la forte influenza romantica, egli rappresenta nel suo capolavoro la figura di Ofelia - celebre personaggio dell'Amleto di Shakespeare - distesa nelle acque con un realismo nuovo, affascinante, con una cura maniacalmente scientifica delle piante degne di uno studio umanistico degli esemplari, riuscendo a conferire calma e serenità ad un soggetto così drammatico proprio nel momento precedente alla morte, in cui la fanciulla continua a cantare nonostante stia cominciando ad annegare. Colpiscono l’ambientazione e la resa realistica della fanciulla quanto l’impatto emotivo che suscita la visione dell’opera, tanto da giustificare la valutazione del dipinto che supera i 30.000.000 di sterline.
This idea flashed in my mind for a long time, so to keep in line with the objectives of sharing and memory of who my father was, the most important aims for my blog, I finally decided to start a new Daddy's neatness rubric: Paint of the week, thanks to which we'll know some of the most interesting paintings not particularly famous, belonging to different historical periods, from the Renaissance to the present day. In this initiative, I'm pleased to be associated my dear brother Mario, who will assist me in the exposition and critique of these beautiful artworks. Being a common passion, we believe that it can be a nice diversion to offer you every week a deep and calm moment, through reflection and observation of unique and interesting subjects from which to distill a taste of pure beauty.
The work that we present today is Ophelia, a painting that dates back to 1851, by the English painter Sir. John Everett Millais, a member of the Pre-Raphaelite painting movement and famed illustrator of the Victorian age.
Feeling the strong romantic influence, he represents in his masterpiece, the figure of Ophelia - famous character in Shakespeare's Hamlet - lying in the water with a new realism, charming, with a maniacally scientific care of the plants worthy of a humanistic study of the specimens, managing to give calmness and serenity to a dramatic subject, just at the moment before death, in which the girl continues to sing even though she's starting to drown. It affect the setting and the realistic rendering of the girl as the emotional impact that raises the vision of the work, so as to justify the assessment of the painting that exceeds 30,000,000 pounds.
