Period Dramas Week by Elegance of Fashion blog - Parte Prima

Come potete vedere nella colonna laterale destra del blog, Cipria e Merletti aderisce all'iniziativa promossa dal blog Elegance of Fashion, che sono sicura molte di voi conosceranno già, creata per celebrare i period dramas, ai quali Alessia ed io siamo tanto legate. Dal 4 al 10 settembre sarà attiva questa "period drama week" che consisterà nel rispondere a varie domande, postate nel blog di partenza ovvero appunto Elegance of Fashion. Sono 51 domande, per cui risponderemo naturalmente un po' alla volta nell'arco di questa settimana. Oggi le prime 10.
1) How did you get into period dramas? Come sei entrata nel mondo dei period dramas?
I started to watch Period Dramas a few years ago, when I saw Pride and Prejudice 2005 during an english class. I decided to buy the DVD, and after I couldn't stop watch Period Dramas. I also collect period drama's DVDs.
Ho iniziato a guardare PD qualche anno fa, quanto vidi Orgoglio e Pregiudizio 2005 durante una lezione d'inglese. Decisi di comprare il DVD, e dopo di esso non sono più riuscita a smettere di guardare i PD. Ne colleziono anche i DVD.
2) What is it that you like about period dramas? Cos'è che ti piace dei period dramas?
Through them, I can live for a few hours in the past centuries I love and meet the characters of my favourites novels, like they would be real people. I also learn a lot about costumes and daily life in past times.
Per mezzo d'essi posso vivere per qualche ora nei secoli passati che amo, e conoscere i personaggi dei miei romanzi preferiti come se fossero persone reali. Imparo anche molte cose riguardo ai costumi e alla vita quotidiana nei tempi passati.
3) Do you usually read a book and then watch the adaptation or do you watch the adaptation and then read the book?Di solito leggi prima il libro e poi guardi l'adattamento cinematografico, o viceversa?
I usually try to read the book after, but I have little time to dedicate to my hobbies, so sometimes I watched the film after or without reading the novel.
Di solito cerco di leggere prima il libro, tuttavia avendo poco tempo da dedicare ai miei hobby a volte ho visto il film prima o addirittura senza leggere il libro.
4) What are your top three period dramas and why? Quali sono i tre period dramas che ti piacciono di più, e perchè?

a. THE DUCHESS
Georgiana was a beautiful woman, a careful mother and a young wife, forced to the side of a selfish, cruel, miserable and cowardly husband who didn't love her. For the love of her children, she renounced to the real love and took comfort by her many interests. A brave woman, politically active when the women are not allowed to take part of the political life, and a frivoulous girl who found the force in herself to make the right and altruistic choice. An example for all women, also in our time, and a beautiful historical biography.Film's costumes are magic, and actors are all excellent...Keira first of all!
Georgiana era una donna bellissima, una madre attenta e una giovane moglie, forzata al fianco di un marito egocentrico, crudele, meschino e codardo che non l'amava. Per amore verso i figli, rinunciò al vero amore e si rifugiò nel conforto dei suoi tanti interessi. Una donna coraggiosa, politicamente attiva quando alle donne non era permesso esserlo, e al contempo una ragazza frivola che trovò tuttavia la forza in se stessa per fare la scelta giusta. Un esempio per tutte le donne, anche ai nostri giorni, e una bellissima biografia storica. I costumi del film sono meravigliosi, e gli attori tutti bravissimi...Keira per prima!

b. SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE
Shakespeare is one of my favourite writers, and this film, based on the true story of his life, helped me to know him better. It is not a real biography, but a romantic view of William's life and work. The actors are brilliant and famous: Judy Dench, Gwyneth Paltrow, Colin Firth and Joseph Fiennes; the interplay between the events of his life and the plots of his works is rendered magnificently; costumes are very beautiful, and the film is a mix of dramatic, comic and romantic scenes. 
Shakespeare è uno dei miei scrittori preferiti, e questo film, basato sulla vera storia della sua vita, mi ha aiutata a conoscerlo meglio. Non è una biografia, ma una visione romantica della vita e del lavoro di William. Gli attori sono brillanti e famosi: Judy Dench, Gwyneth Paltrow, Colin Firth e Joseph Fiennes; l'intreccio tra gli eventi della sua vita e i plot delle sue opere ( in particolare Romeo e Giulietta ) è reso magnificamente; i costume sono bellissimi e il film è un mix di scene  drammatiche, comiche e romantiche.

c. BECOMING JANE
It tells about the real life of Jane Austen, my favourite writers and...my sweet auntie! Viewing Becoming Jane I have the possibility to spend some time with her every time I want, also when I'm too tired to read her novels. It is a precious resource!!
Esso narra la vera vita di Jane Austen, la mia scrittrice preferita e...la mia dolce zietta! Vedere BJ mi permette di passare del tempo in sua compagnia ogni volta che voglio, anche quando sono troppo stanca per leggere i suoi romanzi. E' una risorsa preziosa!
It have been hard to choose only three Period Drama...I love all them!!
E' stato difficile scegliere solo tre PD...li amo tutti!
5) From those three period dramas that you picked, who are your favorite characters in each one? Da questi tre period dramas che hai scelto, chi sono i tuoi personaggi preferiti in ognuno?
Georgiana, William and Jane, to be original! But also Fox, The Queen and Tom. 
Georgiana, William e Jane, per essere originali! Ma anche Fox, La Regina e Tom.

6) Which author do you like the adaptations of his/her works best? Gli adattamenti delle opere di quale autore/autrice ti piacciono di più?
Jane Austen, obviously! Pride and Prejudice 2005, Sense and Sensibility with Kate Winslet, Northanger Abbey BBC, Emma with Gwyneth Paltrow...I see quite all the JA novels' adaptations, and are all in my heart.
Jane Austen, ovviamente! Orgoglio e Pregiudizio 2005, Ragione e Sentimento con Kate Winslet, Northanger Abbey BBC, Emma con Gwyneth Paltrow....ho visto quasi tutti gli adattamenti dei romanzi di JA, e sono tutti nel mio cuore.

 7) Which period drama characters are the funniest to you ?Quali personaggi di PD sono i più buffi secondo te? 
Mr Henslowe, the poor and lousy "literary agent" of the young William in "Shakespeare in Love"; Miss Prism, Cecily's governess in "The Importance of Being Earnest" 2002; and how not to mention Mrs Jennings of "Sense and Sensibility"! And Mrs Bennet, Miss Bates, Lady Catherine de Bourgh, Mr Collins.....
Mr Henslowe, il povero e pidocchioso "agente letterario" del giovane William di "Shakespeare in Love"; Miss Prism, la governante di Cecily in "L'importanza di chiamarsi Ernesto" 2002; e come non menzionare Mrs Jennings di "Ragione e Sentimento"! E poi Mrs Bennet, Miss Bates, Lady Catherine de Bourgh, Mr Woodhouse .....
8) Which period drama characters are the most annoying ? Quali personaggi di PD sono i più fastidiosi e antipatici?
Mr Collins and Lord Wessex without doubt! Mr Collins e Lord Wessex senza dubbio!

 10) When you watch period dramas, what is it that you pay the closest attention to?  Quando guardi PD, a che cosa mostri più attenzione?
At the agreement between actor and character, at the historical accuracy and at the fidelity to the novel, when are based on one of these. All'accordo tra attore e personaggio, all'accuratezza storica e alla fedeltà al romanzo, quando sono basati su uno di questi.
