Con le prime due in classifica impegnate nel FA Cup nel weekend l’attenzione principale era orientata verso il fondo classifica della Premier League: il QPR sembra sia in procinto di lanciarsi in una grande fuga dopo aver vinto due partite consecutive per la prima volta in stagione grazie al 3-1 casalingo contro il combattivo Sunderland, rimontando grazie ai gol  di Remy Townsend e di Jenas in modo da restare in contatto con il quartultimo posto a solo 4 punti di distanza dalla salvezza; il Sunderland è 15esimo, muovendosi nella direzione sbagliata.

Grandissima vittoria per 2-1 dell’Aston villa contro il Reading che gli ha permesso si arrampicarsi sopra le ultime tre posizioni, lasciando così il Reading in grossi guai in 19esima posizione, con il gol-vittoria di Agbonlahor dopo che il Villa era stato costretto ad inseguire fin dal principio.

Il Norwich e il Southampton segnano uno 0-0 a Carrow Road, con Gran Holt che sbaglia un rigore all’ultimo minuto per i Canarini, che sentono di aver bisogno di un’altra vittoria o due per essere al sicuro al 14esimo posto. Il Southampton resta al 16°, 4 punti sopra la zona retrocessione.

Il Newcastle si toglie dai guai nel finale dopo che Papis Cisse segna il gol della vittoria all’ultimo minuto, consegnandogli il 2-1 casalingo contro lo Stoke City che sicuramente si sentirà un pò più preoccupato dopo un terribile inizio anno; il Newcastle sale al 13° con lo Stoke ancora al 11°.

L’unica partita che ha avuto un effetto sull’alta classifica si è giocato ad Anfield Road, dove la gran forma del Liverpool continua con un 3-2 casalingo contro il Tottenham, che pone fine alla loro lunga striscia d’imbattibilità; il rigore di Gerrard acciuffa la vittoria dopo che la doppietta di Vertonghen sembrava decidesse la vittoria per gli Spurs, anche Suarez e Downing sono andati in gol per il Liverpool permettendogli di raggiungere la 6° posizione mentre gli Spurs restano terzi.

Nell’ultimo incontro rimasto il West Brom batte lo Swansea 2-1 a Hawthornes per restare in ottava piazza con lo Swansea in nona.

Altrove nel FA Cup, il Manchester City procede verso le semifinali in compagnia del Wigan mentre il Manchester United e il Chelsea dovranno rigiocare dopo il 2-2 all’Old Trafford; il Millwall e il Blackburn hanno pareggiato 0-0.

La prossima settimana vedrà come incontri principali il Villa contro il QPR, il Manchester United ospitare il Reading e l’Everton ospitare il Manchester City.

With the top 2 in fa cup action at the weekend the main attention was on the bottom end of the premier league and Qpr may be about to launch another great escape after winning back to back games for the first this season thanks to a 3-1 home win over struggling Sunderland , the hoops coming from behind with cracking goals from Remy Townsend and Jenas to stay in touch at the bottom 4 points adrift of safety , Sunderland are 15th and heading the wrong way. there was a huge win for Aston Villa 2-1 at Reading to climb out of the bottom 3 and leave Reading deep in trouble in 19th , Agbonlahor with the winner after Villa had trailed early on. Norwich and Southampton drew 0-0 at Carrow Road , Grant Holt missing a last minute penalty for the Canary’s who will feel they still need another win or two to feel safe in 14th place. Southampton stay 16th 4 points above the bottom 3.

Newcastle are pulling clear at last after Papis Cisse’s last minute winner gave them a 2-1 home win over Stoke City who must surely be getting slightly worryed themselves now after a terrible start to the new year , Newcastle climb to 13th level on points with Stoke who are 11th still.

The one game that effected the top end was at Anfield as Liverpool’s great form continued with a 3-2 win over Tottenham to end there long unbeaten run in the process , Gerrard’s late penalty clinching it after after a Vertonghen double looked like winning it for Spurs , Suarez and Downing also on target as Liverpool move upto 6th , Spurs stay 3rd. in the only other game West brom beat Swansea 2-1 at the Hawthornes to stay 8th , Swansea stay 9th. else where in the fa cup Man city breezed through to the semi,s along with Wigan , Man United and Chelsea have to do it again after a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford and Millwall and Blackburn drew 0-0.

Next week sees Villa take on Qpr , Man united host Reading and Everton host Man City in the pick of the games.
