Cari lettori e lettrici,eccoci nuovamente dopo una breve pausa a parlare di vampiri con il nostro Speciale ancora in corso, anche se ancora per poco tempo dato che siamo quasi giunti alla fine. Speriamo ovviamente che vi sia piaciuto. Quest'oggi vi presentiamo le mini-interviste fatte ad altre bravissime scrittrici straniere che molte di voi conosceranno e di cui sicuramente apprezzeranno le loro innumerevoli serie paranoramal. Quindi... buona lettura e fateci sapere cosa ne pensate di queste risposte!!
JEANIENE FROST1. You write about vampires, which is a huge trend in literature right now. As a writer what trends do you see for the future? Is there a different genre you'd like to write? I can’t predict any trends for the future because I don’t pay attention to trends. It amuses me that I’ve frequently been congratulated for my “smart” choice in catching the vampire wave, but when I was first shopping my novel back in 2004, vampires weren’t the hot thing (this was before Twilight and True Blood, remember). In fact, I got more than a few rejections stating that vampire novels were “done” in the market. If I’d listened to advice about trends back then, I would have shelved my Cat and Bones books and spent my time writing something else. Maybe something I didn’t love as much. But, I’m glad to say I didn’t do that, and several bestselling novels later, I’d say not paying attention to what was considered hot - or not - back then was the right decision. I’ll go further and say that some of the worst advice being given to aspiring authors is to write what’s trending now. Considering for most writers, it takes months at least to write a book, then months at least to get an agent, then another several months at least to sell a first novel, then usually a year or more before that novel’s published…well, whatever that trend was, it’s probably over by then. I love the paranormal genre and I see myself writing in it for a long time, but another genre I’d love to dabble in is horror. I’m a longtime fan of authors like Dean Koontz, Stephen King, and Thomas Harris, plus watching horror movies is one of my favorite pastimes, so that’s a genre I’d like to explore eventually.Non posso prevedere le tendenze per il futuro, perché non ci faccio caso. Parlando per la maggior parte degli scrittori, ci vogliono almeno mesi per scrivere un libro, e poi altri ancora, per trovare un agente, poi diversi altri, per vendere almeno un romanzo, poi di solito un anno o più prima che il romanzo venga pubblicato ... beh, da qualsiasi tendenza si sia partiti, probabilmente è passata per allora.

I’ve been a fan of vampires ever since I went to Sunday school and told the minister that I thought the cross on the wall was to keep the vampires out (true story). Therefore, it was no surprise to anyone in my family that the first novel I wrote was about vampires. So much about their lore appeals to me. Really, what’s not intriguing about the ability to live hundreds or thousands of years while looking eternally young and having incredible, superhuman powers? Here’s a list of some of my favorite vampire authors. I’m sure I’m leaving out several names, but please forgive my bad memory: Charlaine Harris, Lara Adrian, J.R. Ward, Kresley Cole, Adrian Phoenix, Colleen Gleason, and Sherrilyn Kenyon. 3. What is the element that makes your character unique in this period of “inflation” of the figure of the vampire? Most authors think we’ve done something unique with our characters and stories, but then again, we’re biased, aren’t we? :). Readers are the ultimate judge of which books have a fresh take on the vampire mythos, and which books read like the same old story done over again. My books feature a feisty half-vampire heroine who falls in love with a Master vampire bounty hunter, and they chase a lot of villains throughout the course of the series. I’m sure these themes have been done before, so they’re not unique. Why then have my books gotten a great reception from many readers? I don’t know, but I’m grateful for it.

Vorresti occuparti di un genere diverso? I believe paranormal romance will continue to be hugely popular. It’s just so much fun to let your imagination go wild! Vampires are here to stay, along with shape shifters, but instead of the usual werewolf, we’ll see large cats, dragons, and birds of prey. Angels and demons are hot right now, and they’ll be showing up in my next book, Vampire Mine. Everyone loves a superhero like Iron Man or Spiderman. Their supernatural abilities could be physical or psychic (or both). They could be aliens, humans, mer-men, elves, fairies, genies, or whatever a writer can come up with. I believe we’ll see more post-apocalyptic stories, or stories set in alternate universes. Steampunk is on the rise. And there seems to be a new fascination with zombies! I’ve been expanding the vampire world in my series to keep it fresh and exciting for me to write. I have angels, demons, and a variety of shape shifters-- werewolves, were-panthers, were-tigers, and were-bears. I think it would be fun to try a Young Adult book or a historical romance with paranormal elements.Credo che il paranormal romance continuerà ad essere molto popolare. I write romantic comedy, so the Undead are a perfect choice for me. I find them both romantic and humorous. They get to do all the things your mother told you not to do: they sleep all day, party all night, and play with their food! And they make wonderful husbands. They never expect you to cook for them. They never snore. And while they’re dead all day, you have access to their credit cards. I’ve had a lot of fun with my vamps, starting off with the first book, How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire, where Roman Draganesti loses one fang, biting into something he shouldn’t have. He has one night to get his fang fixed, or he’ll be left a lopsided eater for all eternity. I actually avoid reading other vampire romances because I don’t want to subconsciously influence my own imagination or writing. But I have sneaked in a few that I really enjoy: Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse series and Lynsay Sand’s Argeneau series. Scrivo commedie romantiche, per cui i non-morti sono una scelta perfetta per me. Li trovo sia romantici sia divertenti. One: the humor makes them fun to read. Two: the combination of comedy, romance, suspense, action, and adventure. Something for everyone! Three: the characters, themselves. Readers tell me they seem real. Their strong sense of loyalty to each other makes them like a family. Their old-fashioned virtues (like honor, faithfulness, and integrity) make them appealing. And then, there are the Scotsmen. A vampire in a kilt is apparently irresistible! Ci sono un sacco di vampiri in giro, ma credo che la serie Love at Stake riesca a distinguersi in diversi modi. L.A. Well it seems to be zombies and angels and werewolves. I think there is always been a fascination for fantasy and the paranormal and I think that will always continue. I like writing about the paranormal. Maybe some day I'd like to write about adults, but I might still want to write in the same genre. It is so fun!

I wanted to write about the romantic vampire. The idea that a guy needed a girl for all of eternity was very romantic to me. And I like the idea that a guy is an outsider and a loner. Not fitting in with society and perhaps even his own. I like that vulnerability. Honestly, I don't read other books in the same genre--but I obviously would recommend Bram Stoker and Anne Rice. That said, I do read mangas. I like Chibi Vampire and Vampire Knight.

Well, I wrote VAMPIRE KISSES in 1998. When I wrote it, the only vampires I was familiar with were the ones that were dark and terrifying, and the stories were filled with blood and gore. I wanted to write about one that was good and romantic. That he needed love to survive and that he was searching for that true love for eternity. And of course, he's be hot and dreamy. That was how Alexander was born. :)

I see vampires returning to a more frightening state and yet, at the same time, still living among us, known by us humans, and still capable of relationships. One of the charms of the vampire is that he/she is dangerous to us and I think we'll see more of that. It will be the self-taming of passions on the vampire's part in order to co-exist and relate to humans, and human beings extending and expanding to incorporate vampires into our world, despite the threat. I have written horror, fantasy, dark fantasy, science fiction, mystery and erotica. I'm open to all genres of writing.
Vedo i vampiri tornare ad essere spaventosi e, contemporaneamente, vivere ancora tra di noi umani, ancora in grado di tessere relazioni. Uno degli aspetti affascinanti dei vampiri è che egli/ella è pericoloso/a per noi e penso che questo aspetto verrà sviluppato. I've been interested in vampires since childhood when I saw my first vampire movies and read my first books. The undead are predators, we their prey, and that removes us from the top of the food chain and puts us at the mercy of the vampire. But we are human, and they once were, so there is a bond there, if we can find it. I think the best books and film stress that. I'd always wanted to write about vampires so I have. I can't say any vampire book in particular inspired me but there are some I love, like They Thirst by Robert McCammon and the short story by Tanith Lee Bite Me Not or Fleur de Feu.
Sono sempre stata interessata ai vampiri fin dall'infanzia, quando vidi i primi film e lessi i primi libri su questo argomento. The vampires in the Power of the Blood world have big problems overcoming their nature in order to form relationships with one another and with humans. But they must do this or suffer an eternity of alienation. I believe in struggles, in life and in fiction. It's facing big challenges and learning from them that give spice to life, for humans and for the undead. That's what I've tried to instill in my vampires and in my writing in general.

I wish I could accurately predict what the next trend might be! If I base my guess purely on the types of things that interest me the most as a reader and a writer at the moment (in addition to vampires), I would have to say that post-apocalyptic themes are particularly intriguing to me. I think the whole end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it, starting-over type of scenario opens up endless possibilities when it comes to storylines, settings and characters--with or without the inclusion of paranormal elements. It could be really exciting to explore! As for genres I might like to try writing in, I have dozens of book ideas waiting in the wings--everything from more paranormal romance, to romantic suspense and commercial thrillers. I’ve even got a few young adult ideas I’d like to try at some point. All I have to do is find the time to write them all!Vorrei poter prevedere con precisione quali potrebbero essere le tendenze future! The vampires in my novels are not actually undead (see my answer to Question 3), but I have always loved traditional vampire mythology. When I was a kid, vampires were my favorite “monster” – the only thing that scared me, and believe me, I read and watched a lot of horror and supernatural stuff. I love how vampires are both attractive and sophisticated, yet utterly lethal. What could be scarier than a darkly elegant being who can just as easily kill you as seduce you? That’s pretty heady power. As for vampire novels that have inspired me, I can make no higher recommendation than Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles series featuring her wonderful anti-hero Lestat de Lioncourt. If not for my teenage discovery of these novels, vampires might have remained, for me, more terrifying than tragic or sexy. Anne Rice opened my eyes and my imagination to a dangerous, brutal, yet irresistibly seductive world I would love to live in . . . although I probably wouldn’t make it out of there alive!
I vampiri nei miei romanzi non sono dei veri e propri non-morti (vedi la mia risposta alla domanda 3), ma ho sempre amato la mitologia tradizionale sui vampiri. Quando ero una ragazzina, i vampiri erano i miei “mostri” preferiti - l'unica cosa che spaventava, credimi, ho letto e visto un sacco di roba dell’orrore e sul soprannaturale. Mi piace come i vampiri siano sia attraenti sia sofisticati, e contemporaneamnete letali. Cosa potrebbe esserci di più spaventoso di un essere oscuro ed elegante che può altrettanto facilmente uccidere o sedurre? Si tratta di un potere piuttosto inebriante. 3. What is the element that makes your character unique in this period of "inflation" of the figure of the vampire?

As I mentioned above, the vampires in my novels are not the classic “undead” of traditional folklore. They’re not affected by crosses or holy water, and they don’t sleep in coffins or in graves. They are living, breathing, warm-blooded, supernatural beings that were fathered by alien warriors who crash-landed on Earth thousands of years ago. These human/alien hybrids (all born male) formed the first generation of what is called the Breed in my world. They cannot consume human food or drink, and are sustained entirely by fresh blood taken from an open vein. The Breed also has superhuman strength and abilities, including unique ESP talents inherited from their Breedmate mothers.

Come ho già detto, i vampiri nei miei romanzi non sono i classici "non morti" del folclore tradizionale. Non patiscono croci o acqua santa, e non dormono in bare o in tombe. Sono creature vive che respirano, a sangue caldo, esseri soprannaturali che furono generati da guerrieri alieni che precipitarono sulla Terra migliaia di anni fa. Questi ibridi umano / alieni (tutti maschi) hanno formato la prima generazione di quella che viene chiamata Razza nel mio mondo. Non possono consumare cibo o bevande umani, e possono nutrirsi solamente dal sangue fresco prelevato da una vena aperta. La razza ha anche forza e capacità sovrumane, tra cui un talento ESP particolare ereditato dalle loro madri ancestrali. Ci sono molte altre cose che differenziano i miei personaggi dagli altri dello stesso genere, ma dopo nove libri della serie, ci sarebbe voluto un bel po’ più di tempo per spiegarle tutte in questa breve intervista.
