quest'oggi abbiamo come ospite nel nostro salotto virtuale la scrittrice tedesca Kerstin Gier apprezzata autrice di Red che anche in Italia, in appena un mese dalla sua pubblicazione per la Casa Editrice Corbaccio, ha conquistato migliaia di lettori che ormai sono già affiliati alla setta e non vedono l'ora di leggere Blue, il secondo episodio di questa trilogia fantasy young adult in uscita a settembre di quest'anno, che miscela il fascino dei viaggi del tempo all'appassionante storia d'amore dei due giovani protagonisti.

INTERVISTA A KERSTIN GIER1. Ciao Kerstin , benvenuta nel mio blog. E' un piacere averti come ospite in occasione della pubblicazione in Italia del primo libro della Trilogia delle Gemme. Vuoi presentarti ai lettori italiani che aspettano con ansia di leggere il tuo romanzo? Ansia, davvero? :-)
Ok, qualcosa su di me ... Io sono come la zia Maddy, solo un pò più giovane. Tendo a dimenticarmi i bigodini tra i capelli e vado pazza per i dolci. E mi sono sempre interessata degli affari degli altri. Vivo con mio marito e mio figlio e i miei due vivacissimi gatti in una piccola cittadina nei pressi di Colonia.
2. Cosa fai mentre scrivi? Segui un processo creativo particolare?
A volte ascolto musica, a volte mi vizio con un caffè e se sento che le cose non stanno andando per il verso giusto con ho un bicchiere di vino rosso. Ma la maggior parte delle volte sento solo bisogno di tranquillità.
3. Quando non scrivi che tipo di libri ti piace leggere? Quali sono i tuoi libri preferiti? Quali mi consiglieresti?
In realtà sono una lettrice vorace, così posso dire a me stessa che sto in realtà lavorando perché apprendo leggendo - recentemente, ho davvero amato di Suzanne Collins 'The Hunger Games Trilogy'. Pieno zeppo di sospesi e straziante.
4. Quali sono gli aspetti più difficili e gli aspetti più gratificanti della scrittura?
Amo sempre il mio lavoro - quale altro si può fare in pigiama? Beh, d'altro canto si tratta di un lavoro piuttosto solitario e, talvolta, si vorrebbe dividere un pò della responsabilità per finire una storia e girarla a qualcun altro. Ma nessuno ti può aiutare con questo lavoro - si deve fare tutto da soli. Ma, alla fine, quando i tuoi lettori ti scriveranno che i tuoi libri li hanno resi felici, riceverai il tuo premio. Perché questa è la vera ragione per cui io faccio lo scrittore: voglio rendere felici le persone.
5. Cosa ti ha ispirato a scrivere Red? Qual è stata la gestazione del romanzo? Qual è stata la parte più difficile nello scrivere questo libro?
Passeggiando per Londra ci si sente realmente come se una storia segreta ti stesse aspettando ad ogni singolo angolo - il che è molto stimolante. Ho sviluppato la storia di Gwendolyn e Gideon, di una misteriosa società segreta e di viaggi nel tempo con il mio editore Christiane Düring - avevamo in mente di creare una romantica, ma allo stesso tempo divertente serie che potesse piacere il più possibile a bambini e gli adulti. La parte più difficile per me, sono state in realtà le scene romantiche - Ho molto più facile descrivere il combattimento tra Gideon e Gwendolyn :-) E la parte che ho amato di più sono state le scene in cui a Xemerius è stato permesso di avere una bocca grande e insolente- ah, voi non lo sapete ancora - non si mostrerà fino al secondo libro.
6. Dopo tanti romanzi tutti bestseller, che cosa ti ha spinto a scrivere un romanzo fantasy per ragazzi?
Non lo so - forse volevo scrivere libri per bambini e ragazzi prima di dimenticare come ci si sente ad essere adolescenti. Ma probabilmente non c'è motivo di temere una cosa del genere - anche mia mamma si comporta ancora ogni tanto come una quattordicenne - e ha 75 anni.
7. Nel tuo primo romanzo fantasy scrivi di viaggi nel tempo, argomento molto complesso e articolato. Come hai fatto a non cadere in contraddizioni mentre scrivevi e come hai fatto ad inventare l'intreccio e il contesto in cui si "muovono" il tuo protagonisti Gwen e Gideon?
Okay, ho letto un milione di libri (mi sento in ogni caso come se lo avessi fatto veramente) di storia e ho buttato giù tonnellate di tavole e disegni con date e alberi genealogici e e in realtà ero circondata da così tante scartoffie che letteralmente non si vedeva più il pavimento del mio ufficio . Perché questa storia è veramente e genuinamente complessa e articolata e ho sempre dovuto accertarmi che non stessi commettendo errori di logica. Ho dovuto lavorare molto di più di quanto avessi previsto.
8. Nel romanzo appare il conte di Saint Germain e anche molti altri personaggi storici che sono collegati ad alcune organizzazioni segrete. Quali ricerche hai fatto per aggiungere questi elementi al tuo romanzo?
Saint Germain è stata una delle personalità più brillanti del 18 ° secolo. E 'stato membro della Massoneria e si è dedicato intensamente all'alchimia, infatti, ci sono più di pochi che credono ancora oggi che è sia ancora vivo e iin grado di viaggiare nel tempo ... - E' perfettamente adatto alla mia storia e ho sempre trovato affascinante.
9.Red è il primo di una trilogia di romanzi fantasy. Termina in modo magifico ma misterioso, perché molte cose rimangono sospese. Riesci a darci qualche anticipazione sui seguenti "Blue" e "Green"?
In Blue un nuovo personaggio fa la sua comparsa - un piccolo demone gargoyle di nome Xemerius . E' uno dei miei personaggi preferiti di tutta la trilogia . E verrà introdotto Raphael, fratello più giovane di Gideon. E' affascinante, come lui - e gli piace Leslie ... Ci sarà una serata nel 18 ° secolo, anche, alla quale Gwendolyn sarà presente e agirà in modo alquanto inappropriato. Vi posso assicurare che il Punch non è sempre analcolico!
10. Se potessi tornare indietro nel tempo, che periodo storico vorresti visitare e quale scrittore che vorresti incontrare?
Sarebbe bello avere un tè con Jane Austen o visitare i miei nonni negli anni cinquanta - scoprire com'erano i miei genitori quando erano bambini...
11. Red diventerà un film nella primavera del 2012. Qual è il tuo cast ideale? Potrai avere una qualche influenza sull'adattamento a film (in particolare sulla sceneggiatura)?
No, purtroppo non avrò voce in capitolo nella sceneggiatura e nel cast. Ma ho fiducia completa nei produttori e sono convinta che diventerà un film bellissimo.
12. Tu sei al momento una scrittrice di successo. Quale consiglio daresti ai giovani scrittori che vorrebbero iniziare a pubblicare?
Penso il successo maggiore si raggiunga quando scriviamo esattamente quello che ci piacerebbe leggere. Perché è solo allora che veramente ti puoi godere la scrittura passando la stessa scintilla al lettore. Inoltre: Niente è perfetto immediatamente, quindi è imperativo fare pratica e di fidarsi del proprio istinto, anche se quando si teme di non essere ancora sufficientemente capaci.
13. Dopo lo straordinario successo della trilogia delle Gemme, vorresti scrivere ancora qualcosa del genere fantasy / urban fantasy , forse per gli adulti? Quali sono i tuoi progetti futuri?
Attualmente lavoro su un romanzo per adulti, ma in seguito mi piacerebbe scrivere ancora un romanzo fantasy per ragazzi. Avrei anche già un'idea - ma io non ho intenzione di svelartela...
14. Grazie mille di nuovo. E 'stato un vero piacere. Vuoi aggiungere qualcosa prima di salutarci?
Grazie per le vostre piacevoli domande ... e sono così felice che il mio libro sarà pubblicato in Italia, perché amo l'Italia e credo che sia il paese più bello d'Europa - davvero!
INTERVIEW WITH KERSTIN GIER1. Hello Kerstin, welcome to my blog. It 's a pleasure for me to have you as a guest in the occasion of the publication in Italy of the first book of the Edelstein Trilogie. Would you like to introduce yourself to Italian readers who are waiting anxiously to read your novel?
Anxiously, really? :-)
Okay, something about me ... I'm like Aunt Maddy, only a few years younger. I tend to forget the curlers in my hair and I'm crazy about sweets. And I'm always interested in other people's business. I live with my husband and my son and my two perky cats in a small village near Cologne.
2. What do you do while are you writing? Have you a particular creative process?
Sometimes I listen to music, sometimes I crave coffee and if things are really bad I have a glass of red wine. But most of the time I just need quiet.
3. When you are not writing what kind of books do you like to read? What have you read that you’ve loved? What would you recommend?
I'm actually reading a lot, so I can tell myself I'm learning while reading which means I'm literally working - most recently, I really loved Suzanne Collins 'The Hunger Games Trilogy'. Chock-full of suspension and heart-rending.
4. What are the most challenging and the most rewarding aspects of writing?
I still love my job - where else you can go to work in your PJs? Well, on the other hand you are pretty much on your own with your writing and sometimes you wish you could share a little bit of your responsibility to finish a story and pass it on to someone else. But nobody can help you with your work - you have to do it entirely on your own. But you'll always be rewarded in the end by your readers when they'll write you that your books made them happy. Because that's the very reason I'm a writer: I want to make people happy.
5. What inspired you to write Red? Which was the gestation of the novel? What was the hardest part of writing this book?
When you stroll through London a secret story will actually await you at every single corner - which is very inspiring. I developed the story of Gwendolyn and Gideon, a mysterious secret society and time travel together with my editor Christiane Düring- we had in mind to create a romantic but at the same time funny series that would entertain as much as possible children and adults alike. The hardest part for me were actually the romantic scenes - I found it much easier when Gideon and Gwendolyn would fight :-) And what I loved most were the scenes when Xemerius was allowed to have his big, sassy mouth - ah, you don't know him yet - he won't show until the second book.
6. After several best-selling female books, what prompted ou to write a fantasy novel for teenagers?
I don't know - maybe I wanted to write books for children and teenagers before I would forget how it feels to be fourteen. But there is probably no reason to fear - even my mum still acts every then and now like a fourteen-year-old - and she's 75.
7. In your first fantasy novel you write about time travel, a very complex and complicated subject. How did you manage to fall not into contradictions writing the story and how did you conceive the intertwinement and the context in which you "move" your main characters Gwen and Gideon?
Okay, I read one million books (that's how it felt anyway) about history and I made tons of tables and drawings about timelines and bloodlines and actually I had so much paperwork around me that you literally couldn't see the floor in my office anymore. Because this story is really and genuinely complex and complicated and I always had to make sure that I didn't commit a logical error. That was a lot more work than I had anticipated.
8. In the novel appears the Count Saint Germain and also many other historical characters which are related some secret organizations. Which researches have you done to add these elements to your novel?
Saint Germain is one of the most shimmering personalities of the 18th century. He was a member of the Masons and he devoted himself intensively to alchemy, indeed, there are more than a few who believe until today that he is able to time travel and that he is still alive ... - he just fits perfectly in my story and I always found him fascinating.
9. Red is the first of a trilogy of fantasy novels. It ends in a fantastic, but also in a very mysterious way, because many things remain suspended. Can you give us some anticipation about the following "Blue" and "Green"?
In Blue a new character makes its appearance - a little gargoyle demon named Xemerius. He is one of my favorite characters in the entire trilogy. And you can expect the introduction of Gideons younger brother Raphael. He is charming as well - and he likes Leslie ... There will be a soiree in the 18th century, too, that Gwendolyn will attend and where she will act somewhat inappropriately. I can assure you, Punch is not always nonalcoholic!
10. If you could travel back in time, which historical period would you like to visit and which writer would you like to meet?
It would be wonderful to have tea with Jane Austen or visit my grandparents in the fifties - find out what may parents looked like when they were children...
11. Red will become a movie in the spring of 2012. Which is your ideal cast? Will you have any influence on the movie adaption (in particular on the screenplay)?
No, unfortunately I'll have no say in the screenplay or the cast. But I completely trust the producers and I'm convinced that it will become a terrific movie.
12. You are so far, a successful writer. Which advice would you give to young writers who would like to start publishing their books?
I think you are most successful when you write exactly what you would love to read yourself. Because it is only then that you truly enjoy writing and that this spark will jump over to the reader. Besides: Nothing is perfect right away, so it's imperative to practice and to trust your instincts, even, if you fear that you're not good enough yet.
13. Are there any new authors that have sparked your interest? After the extraordinary success of the Gems trilogy, would you like to write again something fantasy / urban fantasy genre, maybe for adults? What are your future projects?Currently I work on a novel for adults but after that I'd like to write again a fantasy-novel for young adults. I even have already an idea - but I'm not going to tell you...

Thank you for your nice questions ... and I'm so happy that my book will be published in Italy because I love Italy and I think it's the most beautiful country in Europe - really!
