Wired dolls

Benedetta Mori Ubaldini is a peculiar scultor, as she creates with balloons and wire – the very kind of wire-net you would use in the countryside to protect your rabbits or chickens. She folds and curves and paints the material to obtain smaller or bigger animals and little or bigger figurines – some of them really dollylike, and they all share an extraordinary lightness and transparency. So they are present and absent wherever you put them.Also when the story is a bit disquieting as in this “rats and babies” installation.

Benedetta Mori Ubaldini è una scultrice del tutto particolare, visto che crea utilizzando palloncini e fil-di-ferro – anzi qlle reti di fil di ferro usate in campagna per proteggere i conigli o le galline. Lei piega e curva e dipinge quel materiale per ottenere animali e animaletti e figure o figurine – alcune davvero simili a bambole, che hanno in comune una straordinaria leggerezza e trasparenza. Così sono presenti e assenti ovunque li si metta. Anche quando la storia si fa un po’ inquietante come in qsta installazione “ratti e bimbi”.
