Il Segretario del Partito Comunista Cinese, Xi Jinping, è stato eletto oggi Presidente della Repubblica Popolare Cinese. Xi Jinping, nato il 1 giugno 1953, era già succeduto a Hu Jintao il 15 novembre scorso nella carica di Segretario Generale e adesso, dopo dieci anni di presidenza dello stesso Hu Jintao, ottiene anche la nomina a Presidente, sancita dal voto del Congresso Nazionale del Popolo con il 99,7 per cento dei 2961 voti a disposizione (un voto contrario e tre astensioni). Li Yuanchao, capo del Dipartimento organizzativo del partito è stato nominato vicepresidente. Xi Jinping è il sesto Presidente secondo la costituzione del 1982, il decimo se si considera i precedenti capi di stato fino a oggi, da Mao Tse Tung, Presidente nel 1949 fino al 1959, inclusi i due Presidenti dell’Assemblea Nazionale del Popolo, Zhe De (1971-1976) e Ye Jianying (1978-1983).
